Babies drool… sometimes a lot. If you don’t want to have to change their clothes every time they gurgle up some spit, it’s best to outfit them in a bib. Store-bought bibs will do just fine, but if you want to go the extra mile, making your own DIY baby bibs is the way to go!
With a DIY bib, you can add some style and personality to the bibs. It’s always a good idea to have multiple as well since you’ll have to wash them after they get gooped on. Check out these unique DIY bibs below!
1. DIY Baby Bandanna Bib
For a stylish drool-stopper, you’ve got to make one of these DIY bandana bibs. They’re customizable, they look great and most important of all, they’re super functional.
You’ll Need:
- Assorted fabrics
- Something for attachment
- Sewing machine
- Cutting tool

2. Sleeved Toddler Bib
If you need something a little more heavy-duty for your kid, this DIY sleeved toddler bib is perfect. It offers full coverage, and it also can’t be easily removed and thrown around.
You’ll Need:
- Hand towel (the larger the better — I found the white one pictured in these instructions at Ikea for a whopping 50 cents — places like Ross and TJ Maxx are great too)
- Knit scraps (rib knit works best) – cut a 12″x3″ piece

3. Mickey and Minnie Baby Bib Tutorial
If you have a child who loves Disney, they’ll love these Mickey and Minnie themed bibs! Unfortunately, the tutorial for making these bibs is no longer available online, so you’ll have to go off the supply list below and do a true DIY!

- Fabric: black, white, and red/white polka dot for Minnie
- Batting (optional)
- Embellishments: 1-yard eyelet lace and 7/8″ white ribbon
- Fabric for backing (flannel, fleece, chenille, minky, etc…)
- Scissors
- Straight pins
- Thread
- Iron/Ironing board
- Sewing machine
- Snaps or velcro

4. DIY Baby Infinity Scarf
This DIY infinity scarf is not quite a bib, but it could still be used as one. Plus, it’s super stylish!
You’ll Need:
- Soft cotton or flannel fabric (My scarf was 9″ by 46″)
- Matching thread
- Fabric scissors
- Measuring Tape
- Sewing machine
- Needle
5. DIY Rectangular Baby Bib
This rectangular baby bib is awesome because it’s big and offers a lot of coverage! It’s also quite easy to make and you can customize it however you want.
You’ll Need:
- 1 fat quarter of main fabric
- 1 fat quarter of flannel
- 1 fat quarter of backing material. I use minky, but I also like to use terry cloth on occasion.
