The product was first manufactured in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a wallpaper cleaner in the 1930s. At a national education convention in 1955, word quickly spread to Macy’s and Marshall Field’s about a new type of modeling clay. By 1956, the wallpaper cleaner had officially become Play-Doh!
