Hello fellow Rite Aid enthusiasts! I have been hearing rumors 4 a few days (thanks Karma!) about some policy changes coming to Rite Aid, so I had a conversation with my favorite Rite Aid manager and he confirmed. I asked him if there was an official written policy and he kindly gave me a copy to 4-ward onto my fellow Frugals that states:
“We just received a correction as Rule 104 has been repealed. The following applies in Idaho as well.
Rule 104 is no longer good law in Idaho. As such, Rite Aid may now:
(1) Restrict the quantity of goods available to a particular customer, so long as the limitation is clear and conspicuous; and
(2) Restrict the quantity of goods available to a particular customer at a sales price, so long as the limitation is clear and conspicuous.
Consequently, Idaho law now falls in line with the vast majority of jurisdictions, such that any advertisement with a clear and conspicuous limitation similar to “limit 4 per customer” is lawful.”
Basically this is just a complicated way of stating that Rite Aid will now be limiting purchases to 4 of each like item. When the item is not in stock shoppers will be given a rain check redeemable for 4 of that item.
What do I think? I am 4 it! I like the idea of limits, especially now when clear shelves are rampant. Limits may help ensure that there are more deals to go around. I also like that Rite Aid is taking a stand 4 ethical couponing against some of the unfortunate behavior they have been experiencing in a positive, fair way. I am looking 4-ward to more deals to go around and feeling 4-tunate that Rite Aid cares about their couponing customers. I will also continue to in-4-m (ok… that one is a stretch
) you all on any other policy changes as I confirm them and hope this in-4-mation is helpful in making your shopping experiences pleasant.
What do YOU think?
Be sure to check 4 this week’s FAB Rite Aid deals here!
Happy Shopping!

I think this is a great policy! I hope other stores adopt it as well.
Cleverly in4mative! I like it! I think 4 is a good number. Thanks for the info!
Thanks Mel!! This is great and should help a lot!
Finally! I had given up on Rite Aid as of late. Hasn’t been worth it to make 5 trips every week only to end up with 5 rain checks. I wonder how the poor hoarders are coping with the news.
I agree! Most of my Rite Aid shopping trips end in frustration. Even if I have a raincheck, the items take months to get back in stock. By then, my coupons have expired, and the deal isn’t good any more.
HEADS UP TO ALBERTSON’s SHOPPERS, too. I was just at Albertson’s picking up my final doubles for the week…. and avoiding the crowds (11:30 pm). The manager shared that they too will be changing their policy, in this case on the doublers. He didn’t have all the details yet, but said it would start next week. it may be region or store specific as the doubles aren’t in our local Sunday paper and the store has been providing 3 sets (like 9 virtual doublers). It sounded like they will likely limit it to 1 set (3 doubles). I’m curious how it will impact printed doubles carried in from out of town.
Well I guess I am one of those “hoarders” everyone talks about, I have a family of seven I have to feed so sometimes if I find a deal I go for it. And on top of that I give some of the stuff away to other people. So I don’t think all of us are bad, it is just some that don’t leave some stuff behind.
We have a family of six and there’s a big difference in clearing a shelf and getting what you need. If you need a large amount, simply do a special order. We also give away food and other items, but we give from our existing stockpile.
I went into a Rite-Aid this past thursday and got the purex ultra for only .97 cents, there was plenty to go around, the clerk said I could buy all I wanted, no lines, few customers..I think this chain is having a hard time competing against wal-mart, target, winco, fred meyers and safeway..few people seem to be stocking their pantries..The unemployment and forecast is grim here, many get food because after they pay bills and feed their tiny children and infants, they have no food for themselves, no turnaround in this neck of the USA.. I always help out at a food place, cooking, cleaning, reading to toddlers, bringing fresh veggies, and fruit..also milk, everyone seems so malnourished and I like to help out, my hubby worked grocery retail he has never seen it so bad, praying for a big turnaround and jobs so people can actually buy food again…hmmmmm…………….
I’m glad you were able to get the Purex you needed!
Mysssssss – where do you live? I’ve read your comments before and they’re always negative. I have family and friends spread out all over the United States, many in the rural south, and although gas is expensive and other things are rough, no one is struggling to feed themselves after they “pay bills and feed their tiny children and infants.”
We’re a single income military family with four children. Money is tight but, if we chose, we could get on WIC with no problem. It’s pushed EVERYWHERE and the income restrictions are pretty loose.
But then there are STILL resellers like say in Ohio, that are still buying 100′s, some times thousands, each week. The manager allows it. She preorders CASES AND CASES a week and does hundreds of transactions per week. All for resale and she shares all this freely online. The manager actually supports this because it boosts her sales compared to other stores. This behavior wipes out warehouses.
Why is the 4 Rule only applying to some customers?
I wish people would share these type stories with RA and ask why are they allowing some to laugh at the new rules?
Why can these resellers buy 100′s and YOU can only get Four?
It’s time for some answers folks.
FYI – this policy just came out this week and they get 2 weeks to implement it. (according to the manager where I shop.) So you’ll likely see the changes soon.
Yeah! But doesn’t mean those that want to will go around and hit all the stores and go in with as many family members that they can. But this will help.
i just want this craze to go away, we get 6 sunday papers, so what ever we can do with that is all we do, we have a hard time even getting just 6 items, i expected stuff like this to happen, its that damn tv show, i hope this is just a faze and people will die off soon, (not really die) just go away
I think it’s a fad for most people (I hope!). Couponing is HARD work and time consuming. We’re a nation of convenience and laziness so most simply won’t keep up with it.
I’m all for sharing the coupon love, tips and tricks with others (pretty much do every shopping trip) as long as people are using the coupons appropriately and ethically. And I have no problem saying something to someone clearing a shelf. With that said, (With all that said, I HATE the new TLC show for continually airing clearing of shelves and making it look like this is an ok practice.)
I am new to couponing but what I have seen in the last few weeks at the stores is crazy and I understand why the limits are being placed. I signed up for the 5 paper deal thru my local paper and its just right to help my family save money(since after all isnt that why all of us are couponing to begin with) While I am learning this process myself I am teaching my children the value of money, proper ways to act and treat people. I will not let my children see me behaving in such a way because I would never want them to act that way.
I have met several WONDERFUL people along the way. Strangers who have been kind enough to share a tip or two with me and I have been grateful for them. I was even able to give out my first tip this past Sunday and it felt good.
I do think that as these limits are put in place you will see the couponing craze slow a bit because the rude ones will eventually feel that its not worth their time anymore. Atleast that is what I am hoping for .
Love they are doing this and hope other stores follow suit. Yes, there will be those that circumvent the rules with multiple cards and or trips but at least it will stop one person from clearing the shelf or something to be left for those of us who can’t go out til Monday. I just hope everyone embraces the change and doesn’t take it out on the cashiers or management. They didn’t make the decision and this decision was made to give everyone a chance at a deal. While out yesterday my wonderful cashier at Walgreens told me he’d just had a very rude couponer. He said she was boasting about throwing yes throwing her coupons at the Albertsons cashier when she was told about the upcoming policy change. Its stunts like that that give us a bad name.
I love the idea! Its hard for me to get to Rite Aid with a 5 month old and they are always sold out of everything. My store has been giving me other products instead of rain checks and when they order the stock, they order more which can then be sent in with the coupon so they get paid back for it.
Still, I am very thankful for the limits!
I have a 4.5 month old and I understand! I feel like it takes me longer than someone else to prepare for a shopping trip because my daughter ALWAYS needs something the moment I sit down to plan. I need to take her with me as well and it drives me nuts to prepare, get an infant ready to go to the store and find an empty shelf when I only wanted a few items.
I like this 4 rule….I too have given up with Rite Aid only because they are almost always wiped out 30 mins. after they open. I try to get there before they open and even then they would only have ohhh maybe 4 on their shelves we’d be lucky if they had 10. I think RA should also be well stocked for their sales….I have 2 RA stores w/in 5 mile radius and they are always empty on the hot items. They seem to have the handle on shelf clearers, but what about the availability of stock… I mean, if they only have 10 on the shelves, that is only good for 3 customers….just saying….But, I like the 4 limit. Thanks for the information.
I like the new rule, cause so many times I try to go get items on sale and there is nothing left. I mean these ads come out on Sun and by Mon afternoon there is nothing left on the shelves. I hope more stores implement better policies.
They are even gone by noon on Sunday!
Great idea! I work, my husband works, 2 young children at home and my oldest son a Marine serving this country…we live paycheck to paycheck! We may even lose our jobs now. I run to the stores after work and…nothing…empty shelves. All my hard work in prepping for my shopping trip out the door. I only would like to purchase 4-5 items at the most. Us working moms are getting the scraps off the table…Albies should really consider implementing the 4 limitation rule. Has anyone mentioned this idea to the managers? The “Extreme Couponing” show doesn’t help, however, I hope it discourages many who see that it is indeed a lot of work!
I am also all 4 this. I have given up on drugstores completely because I do not shop on Sunday. By the time I can get to a store on Monday or Tuesday what I wanted was always gone. Sure I can get rainchecks but they do me no good if my coupons expire before I can get the product. I decided it was better for my stress level to just not do it. With this I may try again. Even for a larger family you can build a stockpile 4 at a time it will just take a little time and not be instant gratification.
I think this is a great policy. I wish other stores would do the same. It is so frustrating to try and coupon and find a shelf cleared of the product that you want. I also wish they would stock up a little more on items they do have on special. But I’ll take what I can get!
I much rather prefer Rite Aid over Walgreens even after a HORRIBLE experience with a Rite Aid manager (Vista store) . I was informed last week by my Walgreens cashier that they too were changing their coupon policy effective 5/22 due to shelf clearing, I think it’s a great idea. Many people forget that these deals come up on a regular basis so there is no need to buy the entire stores inventory.
LOVE IT! Unfortunately some people in the Treasure Valley do not practice ethical couponing! Just last weekend, stopped by a garage sale and was astonished to find a tabled filled with couponing deals for resale! Rows and rows of Tylenol Precise, the pink Palmolive dishsoap, Nivea body wash…..I was sick to my stomach knowing how shelves had been cleared of that kind of merchandise. And here it was for resale.
Wow I just wanna thank you for being so positive toward rite aid. I am a manager for them and most people think we are just the bad guy when refusing their baskets full of the same item. We just want to make as many people as happy as possible. Some people are to selfish to understand this. If everyone thought like you my job would be a lot easier. I don’t have the harderst job in the world but it can be overwhelming being yelled at so often for things such as couponing. You would think we got paid for coupons not used or something.
