6 DIY Detox Ideas You Can Do at Home to Cleanse Your Mind and Body

1. Eliminate obvious toxins
Alcohol, cigarettes and caffeine can top the list of things to get rid of. If you want to truly detox your body, and specifically your liver, you’re going to need to cut this out. You may also need to cut out certain over-the-counter medications like Tylenol and Excedrin. This is the first jumpstart to helping your body eliminate waste and toxins naturally.
2. Drink more water
It’s such an easy thing to do, and yet, it gets overlooked. The simplest thing you can do to help your body detox naturally is to drink more water. Most people do not get enough water daily and this can make you dehydrated and it puts more strain on your liver which acts as a filter. Water also helps remove bacteria from the urinary tract and prevent infections. It aids in digestion, too.
3. Do a Detox Tea
You can purchase a ready-made detox tea program or create your own at home with great detox teas like lemongrass, milk thistle, ginger, Senna, dandelion root, oolong tea, lavender tea, and more. The type of detox tea you use will depend on the types of symptoms you want to get rid of or benefits you want to gain.
4. Clean up your environment
Another simple way to DIY a body detox is to look at your physical environment. Just as important as what you’re putting into your body is what you have surrounding you. Stop using harsh chemicals to clean with, for example. Or if there is a space in your house that you have been wanting to clean up or get rid of junk, do it! Cleaning out physical space in your life also cleans out space in your mind and body, which will make new space for you to add positive things into your life.

6. Detox your mind
Just as important as detoxing the body is detoxing the mind. Journal, meditate, do some yoga, and clear your mind of negative thoughts that are bringing you down. One of my favorite detoxing mind exercises is called “write and burn”. What you do is get out your journal and write the statement, “I feel (worthless/frustrated/angry/etc) because…” and then for 5 to 10 minutes write down all the feelings that come out. It can get pretty ugly. When time is up, rip the pieces of paper out of your journal and burn them up. You need to get rid of the negative energy that you just unleashed. If you can do this for a week, you will free and detox your mind from negative energy.
With these ideas, you’re ready to detox at home and your life. It doesn’t take a lot to create some big changes in your life.
