This Easter we are headed to my Aunt’s house for Easter dinner and I  want to take a gift for her to thank her for all of the work she is putting in to the day. She hosts a huge family dinner and then hides more than 500 eggs for the kids to go and hunt for…Easter at her house is pretty much my favorite celebration with the family! 🙂 She loves flowers, so I decided to paint on a flower pot and then I will put one of her favorite spring flowers in it. Overall, the craft can be done for less than $10, and the kids will love helping out!

This also makes a great craft project to do with the kids for May Day, Mother’s Day, or for just sending some love to Mom or Grandma!

Here’s what you’ll need:

Clay Flower pot & plate
Acrylic Paint
Paintbrushes
Potting Soil and Plant or Seeds (optional)

I purchased my flower pot and plate from Fred Meyer for $5, and already had everything on hand for painting. The only thing left to do is choose whether or not I want to add a flower already grown, or plant seeds.

Step 1 Footprint Flowerpot

To begin:
Wash your kiddos’ feet and then paint the design you would like for the butterfly on their foot. Place the left foot on the pot in a position for the right wing of the butterfly; then position the right foot for the left wing.

Next:
Paint in the body of the butterfly and add some extra touches by painting on bees, ladybugs, dragonflies, flowers, and more if you’d like. My littlest guy helped me out with the butterfly print, but everyone else did the bugs and flowers. Everyone enjoyed getting to help out. 🙂 Use a thumb print for the body and center of the flower. You can add petals with fingerprints so they are smaller.

Last:
Paint on the smaller details of the faces and bodies with a paintbrush. I did the first ones to show the kids how to do it, and then they took over and created their own little bugs.

The painting and crafting part of the project took us about 30 minutes with clean up. Allow to dry and then plant your flower. Then you’re done – and you have a cute, frugal, and memorable keepsake to share!
