Tuesdays Travel Tips…

I’ve seen London…

I’ve seen France…

I want front row tickets to Riverdance…

How about you? Where do YOU want to go?

What do you want to do once you get there?

Think about it…

If you could take a 1 week dream vacation… for pennies on the dollar… Where would you go?

Over the next few weeks I’ll be talking about the different ways I have been able to “save up” for free trips over the last few years…   In fact we’ve been able to fly to Europe 3 times in the past 5 years on FREE tickets… FREE TICKETS!!! Trust me…it’s easier than you might think.

So… Mavis wants to know…

What’s your dream vacation destination?

We are saving to go see our son graduate from Basic Training for the Army this summer. We need all the tips we can get for making every saved dollar count! Help me out Mavis!!!

If you would like you can save on hotel by staying at the Base lodging. Most of these hotels are pretty nice and cheap ( $30 at Fort Lewis). You can call up and ask but if you are interested make the reservation at the earliest as they get booked up pretty fast.
Also ask your son if he will like to stay at base because after basic training they need a break from being at the base. If thats the case try booking a hotel through hotwire as i have some friends who swear by that website and has got some awesome deals. Just be sure to read the comments.

OMG I cant wait for this post…..I got married last Nov but didnt get a chance to go on an honeymoon so I can surely use some tips as whatever I looked up was super duper expensive. I would love to go anywhere warm, sunny & bright. I am so tired of WA rain right now (though i lovw green WA). I want to enjoy the sun and wear my summer dresses. I am sure my hubby will love to travel as last week was really bad for us as i ended up in the hospital for 3 days. I have to say that i already love you so much Mavis… cant wait for you post.
Thanks to all the Fab gals for making life easier 🙂

Ireland, Europe, Disney Land or Disney World, Maine….and so SO SOOOOO many more. I am super excited for you to teach us how to do this!!!!!

  • Gina R.

Italy would be amazing! I would also love to go to Ireland!

  • Shelly :)

I would have to say Australia. I would love to see a koala and kangaroo up close. I would also love to go snorkeling along the Great Barrier Reef (though not with the sharks). 🙂

    • Mavis

I’d have to add climbing the Sidney Harbor Bridge and a attending a performance at the famous Sidney Opera house to the list too along with petting Kangas and snorkeling…

  • Hawaii and Disney World

  • Nicole

I have a list of places I’d like to visit. Top of the list is the Greek Isles, and Italy is not far behind. Cinque Terre is absolutely gorgeous in photos so I can only imagine what it would be like to be there!

  • KGouv

I would have to say it is Rome.. my husband wanted to go there on our honeymoon last year but I convinced him into a tropical spot and again this year.. so I am thinking of suprising him with a trip to Rome next year.. I would LOVE to know how to do it for pennies on the dollar!!

  • Amanda

Greece is at the top of my list! Also New Zealand, South Africa…let’s just say anywhere!

  • Marlene

My dad is leaving his job in June and driving frome Cali back home to Alaska! We are going to meet hime in Oregon and fly back! I want to know how to save money the way there and a cheap flight back!

  • Brandi O

Travel is something Ive sworn off until Ive paid off every stitch of debt (its been SO painful!).

I would love any tips on getting placed for cheap or free. I usually head to Dallas and Minnesota once or twice a year to visit friends.

I would love to go to Greece, France, Scotland, England.

I went to China for free– but was essentially an indentured servant. (Taught ESL in exchange for airfare/lodgings).

  • Heather I

I would take my husband to Italy where his family is from. I love historic locations, and to meet some of his family who lives in the “old country” would be a dream!

  • Karla

I just want to take my daughter to Palm Springs, where it’s so warm and stay two nights and see Stevie Nicks in concert. Not too much to ask right?

  • Jolynn

My dream vacation is ITALY. That is where my dad’s family is from. Hence Amaro is our last name. I have 6 children that I want to take with me and a very fixed income

  • Candice

I would love to be able to afford for my husband to go to Hawaii for his best friends wedding. He’s quite bummed he can’t go because it will be his only chance to be a best man.

  • Susan

You can use swagbucks to buy Travelocity gift cards for hotels. A $25 card is only 349 sb’s, right now anyway. I recently used these GC’s to pay for a chunk of a hotel bill. It’s a good deal.

  • Jennifer

Not so much a dream vacation, but I took my kids to see Yogi Bear at the dollar theater today and now I’m obsessed with figuring out how to do Yellowstone on a budget this summer! We’ve lived in Boise since 1998 and have never driven to Idaho’s eastern border… How lame is that?!? Any ideas for making a national park trip (already a bargain as far as I’m concerned) even more budget-friendly?

  • Susan

I also wanted to say that I’m anxious to read Mavis’ travel tips. We travel two or three times a year, and I and try to be frugal. Sometimes I do great, other times not so much. There’s so much to do and see in the world outside our own neighborhoods. I’ll scrimp and save in other areas in order to give my daughter travel experiences.

  • Julie

We need to go back to Japan for a visit. That’s where my husband is from, and my older son is already 6 and has never met his Japanese family. I would definitely like to remedy that.

  • Lena

Cheap travel?! I love the idea! (are there doublers involved? ;0)
Dream vacation? Anywhere I don’t have to cook and do dishes! I am very flexible.

  • Michele

Yes – Can’t wait for the Tuesday Travel Tips!!!!!!!

I would love to learn anything about travelling on a budget~ Does anyone NOT have cabin fever right about now???????

  • woo crotto

Seen your couponing in action. Can’t wait to hear how to get some inexpensive travel.

  • Yvonne

Italy! That’s MY dream vacation, not my husbands. He is taking us to Israel in 2 months, but I guess that’s too soon to be saving up for FREE tickets. HELP!

  • Tonya

My hubby wants to take the kids to Disneyland. I want to travel pretty much anywhere!!! I would love to show the kids places important in history and beautiful nature!

    • Beth

We want to take out kids to Disneyland too. We have 5 kids and don’t know how it would be possible to pay for 7 airline tickets, hotel, rental car, tickets and food for 7 people. Help Mavis!!!!

  • Ashley Compton

Hawaii! I’ve always wanted to see the lava flow into the ocean!

  • danielle

I’d love to take my kids to Disney!

  • Kim Clark

I would love to have a romantic getaway to Italy with my hubby!!! But I would settle for a fun getaway to Disneyworld with the kiddos……

  • Kristin

For the last couple years, I have wanted to see Ireland!

  • Denise

I am ready to go to Europe and I would love to go for pennies on the dollar. Show me how! I can’t wait! I also want to go back to Maui, I went last year with airline tickets that were virtually free from a friend who worked for the airlines, but I want to know how to get better prices on airline tickets or fly for free! Show me how, I am ready!

  • Ali

    1) Europe! Spain, Italy & France.
    2) South America!! Argentina, Chile, Brazil.
    3) Africa! Think safari 🙂

Yay Mavis!! I can’t wait for more of your posts.

  • Dawn m.

There are so many neat places. Just a few would be Hawaii, Disney World, and my oldest son would love to go to Austraila in two years for a graduation gift would love to take the whole family.

  • kristi m

My sister is getting married in Hawaii this fall and I would LOVE tips on how to save or get as close to free tickets for 3 of us to go. Cheap/free equals more spending cash for us.

  • Sheena Davies

    Cayman Islands!

  • Ann

Wow looks like many of us can really benefit from this post….is it Tuesday yet?? Maybe we’ll become the fabulesslytravelled….

  • Meridian Mama

Can’t wait for your post, Mavis! We travel to Europe every other year to visit family and it’s sickening to pay thousands of $$$ for airline tickets… I’ll be all ears!!!

  • Lacey

Italy. I would absolutely love to go to Italy!

  • Ami

One of my BFF’s is moving to China for a year due to her husband’s job. All I have to do is pay for airfare to get there. Food and lodging would be covered upon arrival. Can I fly there for FREE? I can’t wait to find out how.

  • Molly

We’re planning a trip to Hawaii next year….can you really get me free airfare? I’ve flown to Africa with free tickets (sky miles) but it took forever and lots of hubby’s business trips to save up that many miles! Other than working for the airlines, what can we do?? You’d be my hero, Mavis!!

  • Sara

The British isles and Hawaii–my two favorite destinations. I have friends in Northern Ireland and am always telling them I’ll come visit, but it just never happens. I have thought about building up rewards through credit cards, but whenever I’ve looked into it, it really seems like it will taken too long, unless you are really spending a lot of money, which, I’m not! Mavis, show me how!!!

  • We have friends in Africa, Ireland, Australia & Japan that we want to go visit. Family in California & New York. This is our travel wish list. Help!

  • Deja

New Zealand or Australia or Guam

  • Tammy

Are you serious??? Free Tix??? You’ve got my attention! I’m trying to guess how you do it. I have a CC, but that only gives me about $500 in cash every couples years since we don’t spend a lot! We always put that in the travel fund! And I always try to get bumped, but that doesn’t usually work internationally (and a lot harder now that we have kids)! I’ve never done one of those seminars where they try to get you signed up for a timeshare??? And I’m not sure if I can earn that many swag bucks 🙂 I’m intrigued!

My Dream Trip: Probably an around the world ticket, but I would settle for
    1) Turkey and the Greek Isles and Maybe Spain and Tuscany
    2) Thailand (been there once and loved it) and Indonesia: think cheap massages on the beach
    3) A trip to the Amazon/Brazil, Chile and Argentina

  • Lacey

When is Mavis going to do the posting of the travel stuff?
