I love being able to see my kids grow, learn, and explore the world around them. It is also amazing to see the kids’ strengths and weaknesses in their learning, and then stepping alongside them in the learning process to make it less frustrating. One thing in particular that I have been challenged in this year is telling time. It is a unique concept to teach, and it can be confusing to separate the hour and minute hand, then convert the numbers to get the time on an analog clock…so after looking around I decided to make my own version of a flower petal clock to help with telling time to the hour and minutes.

So, I wanted to share this tutorial with you so you can see how easy it is to convert a regular wall clock in to a flower petal clock! Here’s what you’ll need:

Here’s what you’ll need:

To begin with you can print off the FREE Printable Template for the Flower Petals and then cut them out. When you are done with that use the light adhesives to put the number petals on the front of the clock. I had my kiddos put the numbers on as part of their math lesson and then read them a book about telling time.

After that I had all of the kids paint the larger petals with water color paints to add some texture, depth, and color to the clock. Once those dried I cut them out and then had my littlest guy tape them to the back of the clock. He enjoyed getting to be a part of the process and was so proud to show his big brother and sisters the final product.

After the clock itself is finished you’ll just need to hang the clock and tape or adhere the stem and petals to the wall. Then you are done! A quick, colorful, and easy way to help in the learning process. Now when we look at the clock it is easy to see that the small petal is for the hour, and the longer stem is for the minute hand; and then the petals help to show how many minutes the hour it is!! Hope you have fun with this!

Here are some books that you can read before or after your craft that will help to reinforce the learning process!!
