Spread Cheer With Your Holiday Decorating + Deals and Coupons from Sears!
Ah, Christmas time…all the cooking, wrapping, caroling, concerts, parties, shopping and decorating. Without fail Christmas seems to find me stretched tight on money and time. So decorating seems to take a backseat to many of the more pressing events. However, there are a few simple and inexpensive decorating tricks I have found to spread real Christmas cheer for me.
1. Use what you have. With all of the other expenses at Christmas time there is no need to go out and buy a whole houseful of new Christmas décor. Check around the house for baskets, decorative bowls, vases, teddy bears, old sleds, or frames that you could repurpose by adding a bow, a new coat of paint or putting it with something else for a new look.
2. Bring the outside in. One of our family’s guilty pleasures every year is a fresh cut Christmas tree. I love to take the extra limbs that we cut from the bottom of the tree to place on the mantle, or shelves, or to use as centerpieces. Pinecones , tree limbs, or any greenery from the yard also work well in baskets or vases. You can even spruce them up a bit with silver, white or gold spray paint. Add warmth with Candles. Ribbon, or colorful glass bulbs. All are inexpensive ways to ad warmth and a touch of color to any decorating theme.
3. I have learned from experience that when I keep things simple I am able enjoy the Cheer of the season. I am always surprised at the memories my children have and it’s usually not the color of the bulbs on the mantle or how I hung the wreath over the freshly painted frame on the wall. It’s the giant snowfort we made that one year or the time we had a snowball fight that ended up in the house. It’s making gingerbread houses and decorating cookies together. This is what spreads real Christmas Cheer for me!
