I’m certainly no expert, but I question the safety of baking with silicone-based products. Sincerely, how can this stuff be safe?

A relative of mine was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and discussions with her doctors led me to researching plastics as a carcenogenic, which subsequently led me to research the safety of silicone. There doesn’t seem to be any documented harmful effects, but there sure are lots of unofficial warnings out there in cyberspace. It wasn’t that long ago that microwaving in plastic containers was widely accepted, but now there is plenty of evidence that shows harmful effects to health. Latex was once considered perfectly safe, but now we know that’s not true. So … tt really makes me wonder about silicone.

I’m not telling anyone what to do. But why take a risk, even if it’s a very small one, when it’s so easy to avoid? What’s wrong with good ‘ole cookie sheets?

The DeMarle products are a silicon/glass blend. All of them have been certified by the american cancer society as being completely non toxic/non cancerous. The stuff we really need to worry about it the pots and pans that are lined with teflon. Teflon eventually will come off into the food.

Cookie sheets can also eventually cause problems with the foods that stick and wont come off. Those carcinogens will eventually end up in the food as well. No food sticks to the Silpats so you don’t have to worry about that.

  • These are my absolute favorite for baking blueberry scones. Those hot exploded blueberry blobs come right off . I saves make so much soaking and scrubbing. They are also great for roasting beets and carrots (high in sugar).
