This crock pot meal was another keeper, and a great use of 2 of the 40 lbs of ground beef I just bought! Â I like to buy chicken and ground beef through Zaycon, as I then always have meat on hand. Â I had kept about 6 lbs fresh in my fridge, and wanted to make some room, so I found this recipe. Â Oh my was it good! Â After quickly making the patties and browning them in a skillet, you then let your crock pot take over. Â So easy! Â We served them with steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes. Â Yum!
Serves 8 for about $1.20/serving
 2 Pounds lean ground beef – $7.00
1 Package onion mushroom soup mix (I used DIY Onion Soup Mix)
1/2 Cup crushed saltine crackers (I used bread crumbs, didn’t have any saltines)
1 egg – $0.10
1/4 Cup milk
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 Cup flour
2 Cans cream of mushroom soup – $1.78
1 Package brown gravy mix – $0.48
In a large bowl, mix together beef, onion mushroom soup mix, crushed saltine crackers, egg, and milk.
Using your hands, shape beef mixture into 8 patties.
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Â Dredge the patties in flour to coat and brown on both sides.
Place the browned patties into the slow cooker (overlapping is ok)
In a medium bowl, prepare the brown gravy according to package instructions. Â Mix in both cans of mushroom soup.
Pour gravy mixture over the patties.
Cook on low for 4 to 6 hours, or until beef is done.
