Pesto Jalapeno Burger Recipe

The jalapenos are hot (and pleasantly crisp) straight out of the jar, but on the burger with the mozzarella, pesto, and tomato it really works. The flavors all meld together wonderfully. Not too spicy, not too pesto-y. One of the best burgers I’ve made yet!

Pesto Jalapeno Burger Recipe

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 6 slices mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup pesto
  • 1/4 cup light mayo
  • sliced jalapeno peppers
  • 6 slices fresh tomato
  • mixed spring greens

Heat grill on high heat.

In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, Worcestershire, salt, and pepper. Do not overwork the meat. Shape into 6 equal burger patties, about 3/4-inch thick. Use the back of a spoon or your thumb to make a slight indentation on the top center of each patty. Reduce grill heat to medium and cook patties, turning once, until cooked through, about 8-10 minutes.

Place a slice of mozzarella on top of each patty for the last minute or two of cooking. (I recommend toasting the hamburger buns on the grill during the last few minutes of cooking as well.)

Meanwhile, mix together the pesto and mayo in a small bowl and slice or prep other ingredients.

Once the cooking is done, it is time to assemble the burger! Place a patty on the bottom half of a bun, add about a tablespoon or so of the pesto spread on top of the patty, or spread it onto the top half of the bun. Then throw on some sliced jalapenos, a slice of fresh tomato, and a handful of mixed greens. Enjoy!
