Homemade Chocolate Pudding



  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract


  1. In a small saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa, salt and cornstarch. Add milk; stir until smooth.
  2. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil.
  3. Cook and stir 1-2 minutes longer or until thickened.
  4. Remove from the heat. Stir in butter & vanilla.
  5. Spoon into dessert dishes.
  6. Serve warm or chilled. 
  7. Yield: 6-8 servings.

  • We love homemade pudding. For our smaller family our favorite recipe is 3T each of sugar, cornstarch, and cocoa with two cups of milk and 1t vanilla. Same directions.
