These gourmet cheesy spinach burgers are a favorite burger for family BBQs. It is so simple to make these for freezer cooking. Simply make the patties and freeze them. Then you can quickly cook them up on dinner night. I like that I can sneak some spinach in these burgers and my kids will still eat them!

Ingredients for Cheesy Spinach Gourmet Burgers

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 package (10 oz) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

Only 4 ingredients! These cheesy spinach burgers are quick and easy to make. I usually at least double the recipe and freeze the extra patties. In fact, these photos are of the recipe doubled. 😉

Mix spinach, ground beef, cheese and onion soup mix together in a large bowl. It is easiest to mix by hand! For better burger texture, be careful not to over-mix or over-handle the ground beef.

Form the meat mixture into a ball, divide in half, then divide each in half again. Then you’ll have 4 close-to-evenly-sized burger patties. Grill on an indoor grill or outdoor grill on medium high heat, about 4 minutes each side.

When freezing burger patties, I like to freeze them individually on a baking sheet or something similar first. And I often line the baking sheet with plastic wrap because it makes it easy to transfer the patties. Then I place a small piece of parchment paper or waxed paper between each patty, stack them, and transfer to a freezer bag or similar freezer container.

I guess you just squish all the ingredients together and the cheeze is mixed in as well? I think this would make a great recipe using ground chicken or turkey. The additional flavors would make the burger come alive! Also, it would keep the kiddies healthier. Thanks for sharing.
