Better than a Box Brownie Mix
One easy way to save money is to make your own mixes instead of buying the ready made ones at the store.
This takes less than five minutes to put together and saves time and money! I figure this large batch of brownies costs me about $0.50 to make compared to the $2.39 or more it would cost in the store!

Fabulessly Frugal

Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 cups white sugar
To Prepare
- 1 cup melted butter
- 3 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Mix the first 5 ingredients and place in a jar, container or ziploc bag. Then on the container or bag I would write the following instructions:
Add

- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Mix until well combined. Grease a 9×13 pan.
- Spread batter evenly and bake at 350 for 22-25 minutes or until done.

This was pretty thick and elastic when I put it in the pan-no water, right?
Right no water and it is pretty thick. If you like a more cake like brownie I would add a 1/4 c water.
Great gift idea, thanks!
Good thinking!
Well, I was thinking I could put this mix into a pretty Mason jar, maybe add a snack bag of chopped nuts or something if there is room. Then print a nice label with the directions to complete it and decorate it with holiday ribbons. I already make up xmas baskets of my pickles, apple butter, home dried spices, etc. This would be a wonderful addition to the baskets! Can’t wait to try it for a test run. Thanks again for the idea.
My copy of this book is probably 35 year’s old.
Ha Ha! Mine too, my Mom gave me her old one forever ago and I use it all the time!
Just got done ordering that book from Amazon because of this post. As a working new mom, I love finding stuff like this to make life a little easier. I’m excited to try the brownie mix as well as the (apparently awesome) recipes in the cookbook.
