My son and I have recently removed wheat from our diet.  Which means I’ve had to get more creative in our cooking!   Beef Stroganoff has been a family favorite, and I was bummed just thinking that I couldn’t make this regular recipe from our menu anymore.  THEN sweet Renee shared her made from scratch cream of anything soup mix.  No flour in that recipe!  Sweet!  Now I just had to find a gluten free beef bullion.  Thankfully I discovered Better Than Bouillon, a gluten free beef bullion!  And truth be told, this gluten free Beef Stroganoff recipe tasted better than my old recipe!

For the Stroganoff

  • 1 pound lean ground beef or turkey
  • 1 serving of Homemade Cream of Mushroom Soup see here OR 1 can of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom soup (although I promise the homemade version tastes better!)
  • 1/2-1 cup of sour cream
  • 1/2-1 cup beef broth follow beef bouillon instructions

Top Over:

  • Baked Potatoes
  • White or Brown Rice
  • Egg Noodles

Optional Toppings:

  • Chopped Green Peppers
  • Shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Sauteed Mushrooms
  • Sauteed Onions

  • Cook up your ground beef.
  • I like to brown my ground beef in olive oil and dried onion flakes.
  • While this is cooking, in a separate pot, cook up your homemade cream of mushroom soup according to directions.
  • Be sure to add your gluten free beef bouillon (which isn't part of the dry mix if you're making it gluten free).
  • Add cream of mushroom soup to cooked beef and heat through.
  • Add sour cream to taste.
  • Heat through and then add some beef broth to thin it down a little (this will also help stretch it out a bit too).
  • Do however much tastes good to you!
  • Top over boiled or baked potatoes, brown or white rice, or cooked egg noodles!
  • Delicious with extra toppings, but not necessary!
  • Enjoy this and let me know how your family likes it!

  • This looks like a great recipe but I don’t think you can call it “gluten free”. Campbell’s cream soups and egg noodles both have gluten.

  • What kind of dry milk powder do you use? I’ve never found a truly gluten free dry milk powder. And posting the Campbell’s as a back up is a bad idea. It’s not gluten free. Neither are any kind of egg noodles. Your recipie is very misleading and is not safe for celiacs.

    • I share campbell’s as a back up for the non GF people, assuming that GF people would know not to use it. I also share potatoes and/or rice as a GF option. And of course the noodles would only work for non-GF people. I’ve used the Bob’s Red Mil or just a store brand of dry non-fat millk powder. I guess I didn’t realize it wasn’t GF because in the ingredients it only says “contains: milk”

  • I’d be careful calling the recipe gluten-free and then listing Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup — kind of misleading for the beginner! Sure a person should do their research but if the title says ‘Gluten Free’ some folks are going to assume that it *is* gluten free. Could trip up someone new to the gluten-free world. Health Valley does have a certified gluten-free canned Cream of Mushroom soup that’s pretty good.

  • You know egg noodles have wheat in then right?

  • Some people are so picky! This is a great gluten free option for making beef stroganoff. Of course use your common sense to not use the campbells version if you need gluten free. I am gluten free and have made my own cream of chicken before but also buy the cream of chicken soup to put in, when I don’t feel like making it. (I am not into mushrooms)

I have also purchased gluten free egg noodles before but any gluten free noodle option will work. Thanks for a great recipe!

  • Those of us who are celiac know not to use the options provided by this recipe. It contains all the gluten free requirements for the stroganoff and what to serve it on/with. Really people…be nice.

BTW delicious. I used a gf canned soup by Amy. It was ok but will make the homemade next time.

  • I look for gluten free recipes. You mentioned in the recipe, homemade mushroom soup or Campbell’s mushroom
I would have gotten very sick using Campbell soup!!!
