The Best Monkey Bread in the Air Fryer

One of our family’s favorite Christmas traditions is a big Christmas breakfast. We love to eat foods that aren’t necessarily healthy for breakfast, but sure are delicious! Monkey bread is my personal favorite.

I have loved trying out new and old recipes in the air fryer, ever since I got it about 2 years ago. Air frying food makes cooking so much easier AND FUN! Check out my air fryer review to get all my thoughts on air fryers!

This year I decided I was going to try our favorite monkey bread recipe in the air fryer, and oh boy! Not only is it delicious, but it’s also extremely easy to make.

What You Need for Christmas Morning Air Fryer Monkey Bread

You only need 4 ingredients to get the bread ready. It’s so simple!

  • 12 Rhodes White Dinner Rolls, dough thawed to room temperature
  • ½  cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ stick of butter

To top of this amazing monkey bread, you’ll want to make a sweet glaze. For that you only need to mix together 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1-2 tbsp of milk, and 1/2 tsp of vanilla, until it reaches your desired consistency.

How to Make Air Fryer Pull-Apart Bread

There are a couple of important things you’ll want to keep in mind while you are making this bread.

First, in an oven safe pan that fits in your air fryer, lightly brush inside of the pan with melted butter.

Air Fryer Pro Tip: How to Rise Rolls in the Air Fryer

Second, once your rolls are inside the pan, they need to rise. And of course, I have a hack for you!

Simply reheat your air fryer for about 5 minutes 400˚F/200˚C. Then turn off your air fryer and place your pan of monkey bread inside air fryer, let it sit and rise for about 30 minutes.

Air Fryer Monkey Bread

Once the bread is has risen, cover your pan with foil so that the heating element inside the air fryer doesn’t burn the top of the monkey bread. Set the air fryer to 340˚F/170˚C and cook the bread for 10-20 minutes.

At the 10 minute mark, check your bread with an instant read thermometer. Once your bread reads somewhere between 180-185˚F/82-85˚C, it is ready!

You can give your monkey bread a little extra toasting if you remove the foil and bake for 1-3 more minutes.

Final Thoughts

There you have it! We hope your family enjoys this one Christmas morning, I know ours will! We love that this air fryer monkey bread is incredibly easy and it pulls right apart. With your instant read thermometer this is a no fail recipe!

Equipment

Ingredients

Bread

  • 12 Rhodes White Dinner Rolls or any pre-made frozen dough, dough thawed to room temperature
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 4 tablespoons butter melted

Glaze

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix together brown sugar and cinnamon.
  • In a separate bowl, melt a half stick of butter.
  • In an oven safe pan that fits in your air fryer, lightly brush inside of pan with melted butter.
  • Once your rolls are thawed out to room temperature, cut them in half and roll each piece in butter, then dip into the sugar mixture, and place into pan. Repeat!
  • Once all your rolls are placed into the pan, pour any remaining butter and sugar on top.
  • Let rolls rise for 30 minutes in a preheated air fryer that is OFF, until rolls have risen, just to the top of the pan.
  • Carefully cover rolls with foil to prevent the top from burning and bake at 340˚F/171˚C for 10-20 minutes. You will know bread is cooked when an instant read thermometer reads about 180˚F/82˚C.
  • While baking, make glaze by whisking powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until slightly runny.
  • Remove foil and bake for 1-3 more minutes to lightly brown the top. Carefully remove pan from oven (with oven mitts).
  • Let cool for just a minute and invert a plate and turn the pan over onto plate.
  • Add glaze and enjoy.

Recipe Notes

Since wattage and air fryers differ slightly, you’ll want to keep an eye on the bread. Using an instant read thermometer is a great way to make sure your bread is cooked through!

  • WONDERFUL & ADDICTIVE!!! These are so easy, and so good! I found that you can even use less than 12 rolls, and it comes out wonderfully as well. For some reason, I thought you couldn’t stack them, but in looking at the pictures again, it appears they can be stacked. So will definitely try this the next time. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this recipe! My mother used to make this, and when she passed the recipe never surfaced. So not only is this so good, but it’s very sentimental and nostalgic for me.

    • Debbie, we are so glad you found a recipe that reminds you of your sweet mama ♥. Thanks for the rating and for the tip on using less rolls.

  • Hi wonderful recipe. I was wondering if you could put the name of the ingredients on the plate when you show it please?

    Love the site.

  • For years I made the traditional recipe in the oven, but every AF recipe I tried… the monkey bread was too dry.. I used 9 dinner rolls in about a 3-in tall bundt pan that fit my AF for this recipe….they were moist, tender and delish! Try it , you won’t be disappointed !
