Peanut Butter Prices Expected To Soar?

Have you heard the news?  Peanut Butter prices are expect to soar and according to this CNNMoney article Kraft Foods will be raising their Planters brand peanut butter 40% on October 31st.  That’s nuts!  Also,  ConAgra will be raising prices on their Peter Pan peanut butter by 20%!  Someone needs to tell Tinker Bell & Wendy… because that is just crazy!

I don’t know about your kids… but my kids practically bathe in peanut butter.  My husband too!  Lunch would not be lunch without a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the brown paper bag.

It’s a good thing the prices on my kids 2 favorite peanut butter snacks have not increased yet…
The Jif To Go Creamy Peanut Butter, 12-Ounce (Pack of 6) is on sale right now for $10.75/ $1.79 each 6 pack shipped with the subscribe & save option. That’s only $.22 per individual serving.  My daughter loves to pack these individual serving cups in her lunch along with some with pretzels or apple slices for a yummy snack.

And it’s a good thing the Austin Toasty Crackers with Peanut Butter (6 Sandwiches Per Pack), 16.5-Ounces Packages (Pack of 6) have not gone up either.  You can still get a package of  Pack of six, 12-count cartons of packaged Peanut Butter Sandwiches for only $11.63 shipped with the subscribe & save discount.  That works out to be only $.16 each!  My son inhales these. 😉

Here are a few more peanut butter items currently available on
Barney Butter Almond Butter 90 Calorie Snack Packs, 0.6-Ounce (Pack of 24) $8.32/.35 each shipped with the subscribe & save option.

What do YOU think about the price of peanut butter increasing?  What is YOUR favorite peanut butter snack?

Hm…. I might just skip the grocery store and pick up 2 costco pacs. 2 giant jars for like 8 bucks, or it was last time anyways.

It will go up. I heard this 40% increase story about 2 weeks ago on the news. Basically, stock up now because we will feel this increase very soon.

Can you freeze peanut butter? I can tell when it is getting a bit old & my stomach definitely doesn’t like it. I can even taste the difference, if the seal hasn’t been broken on the jar. I would think freezing it would keep it fresh tasting. Anyone know?

I Goggled it and found this from a trusting source:

“Peanut butter could be frozen to extend its shelf life. However, because the fat in peanut butter would become rancid even at cold temperatures, it would be best to use the product within a few months. Storage in refrigerator extends shelf life of opened product.”

So, in a nutshell, are any of those peanut butter items stock-up price, or just a “good” deal? Thanks Mavis!

  • Allison

I do not see either of those skippy peanut butters as options in the subscribe and save program. I only see Skippy super chunk in a 2-pack of 64 oz. containers. Am I missing something? Thanks! Allison

  • Peggy

Thanks for the heads up! I’m stocking up this week.
