its actually a myth. this was discussed im my food class in college cause someone was curious and heard this worked.
it goes brown cause of oxidization not because the pit is removed. u just have to make sure as little air/gas gets at it once its been cut so tightly wrap it with as little possible air being able to get at it

The only way I’ve found to keep guacamole from getting brown is to put saran wrap flat across it and up the sides of the bowl (so that the wrap is touching it, not just over the bowl). Probably follows the science that candice shared.

Candice and Michelle, yes both are true. I also have learned that it is the oxidation which causes the avocado or guacamole to turn brown. ANY area of either which is exposed to air will discolor unless something is covering the surface. The pit will not change the guacamole, only the surface under or around the pit itself.

In Africa we make guac all the time and it never turns brown because we squeeze a lime in it!

Yep squeezing lime, lemon, or vinegar in your guacamole keeps it from turning brown because of the acidity.
