Manage the Laundry Pile for Less!!

Tackle the Laundry Pile & Save with these Hampers and more!

Laundry Tips COllage

Laundry is a never-ending battle in our house. I thoroughly enjoy the few hours when all things have been washed, dried,
and put away. It doesn’t last long…but in those few hours, I sit back and think “all is well”. Until this past summer I
had been striving to get a working system figured out for doing my laundry since my twins were born…for more than eight
years. Before then, I thought that I finally got it figured out, then had another kiddo, or added something else in my schedule that made keeping up on the laundry a challenge. So, after spending several months of tackling Mount McLaundry when it got piled high I
decided to try out a new system – and I’m so glad it did because, for my family, it works! If you are looking for a simple
solution to keeping a laundry system going, try this out!

How I do it:

To begin with I had to make a plan…and then commit to it for two weeks to see if it’s a good system. This was the hardest part! Being able to consistently follow through on a chore can be HARD, but WELL worth it if it required less work overall. To give you and idea of what works for my family, here’s my weekly plan.

Here’s my weekly plan that I follow: Each day I try to get everything Washed, Dried, Folded, AND Put Away. It doesn’t always get done on the day, but I catch up the next morning after I put the new load of wash in.
Monday: Whites / Ironing
Tuesday: ALL towels (Kitchen, Bathroom, and cleaning/misc.)
Wednesday: Darks (Warm or Hot water) / Athletic gear
Thursday: Darks (Cold Water) / Ironing
Friday: Sheets & bedding from all beds / Sock matching from all leftover loads
Saturday: Catch up day…I know that some weeks I will be busy so if I’m not able to get to a day I skip it and pick up on the schedule the next day and use Saturday to catch up.

You will want to make a combination that works out to have about equal amounts of work a day. While working in small amounts throughout the day may seem like a lot to begin with, but after a while it will work in to your daily routine! Now that I’ve been using this for awhile I have seen it work really well when I stick to it. Admittedly, though, not all weeks get done on schedule or on time…but the best thing about it is that I can start fresh in the new week!

This would be a fun decal to have on any Laundry Room Wall!

Here’s some simple ways to make it easier on yourself to stay with your laundry schedule:

Organize: Make sure that all of the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen have a laundry hamper. This
will help in the collection of the laundry and make it easy for you or a helper! Once the dirty clothes make its way to the
laundry area or room, sort it into piles or specific hampers. I LOVE the rectangle hampers from IKEA, but I also really
like this one.

Get the kids involved: I have my kids help me on Tuesdays with Towels since that is the house job we work on for the day. I split the job in to 4 areas since I have 4 kids: Fold and put away Bathroom towels; fold and put away Kitchen towels, fold and put away
cleaning towels; and my littlest helps me to start, switch over the loads, and then pull it out of the dryer and put it in
the basket for my other kids.

Make it a family chore: Before bedtime have everyone in the family help fold the laundry for the day while you talk about your day at work and school. Then, after all of the laundry is folded everyone can help put it away.

Movie Night & Ironing: The days that I have ironing (NOT MY FAVORITE) I set the ironing board up in the TV room and put on a movie with my hubby and iron. This makes it better for me since I can still be hanging out with him, but also catch a movie in the process.
