Lifestyles Of The Fabulessly Frugal…

Did you happen to notice the  ad for American Beauty Pasta in this weeks Albertsons flyer?  I did.  If the rumors are true and we do in fact get doublers this Sunday… I plan on tossing a few boxes into my cart. Just in case you missed it… there was a coupon for .55 cents off American Beauty Pasta in the 4/10 SS… (or a $1.00 off 2 boxes HERE) making it FREE with a double coupon.

Like many couponers… Pasta is on our weekly dinner menu rotation… But here’s something else to think about…

Out of all of the items above… I only had to pay for the blueberries, lettuce and bread… All the rest of the food was picked up for free at some point over the last 6 months because I waited for a sale and used my coupons (plus doublers) to purchase the food.

Typically about 3-4 times a year… we host a big dinner…

Maybe it’s a pasta feed for the track team or just having a bunch of teenagers or  neighbors over for dinner…

Over the years I have found the easiest  and most inexpensive dish to make for a crowd is Pasta, Cesar Salad and Bread.  The pasta can be made ahead of time and simply re-heated in the oven… If you serve Cesar Salad… all you need is lettuce and Cesar Salad Dressing (the best time to stock up on free salad dressing is in the summer)… and maybe a few croutons to toss on top.  And as for the bread… you can always save up a few containers of those frozen Rhodes Dinner Rolls that are almost always available for .50 cents when you combine their $1.00 off coupon with a doubler.

So don’t be fooled into thinking you have to shell out big bucks to just invite a bunch of people over for dinner… because you don’t.

Free Pasta… it’s what’s this Fabulessy FruGAL is serving for dinner!

Hi Mavis, I don’t think I got the American Beauty pasta coupon in Idaho. Was it regional? p.s. love your posts!

Is the QuickCook kind included for the American Beauty $1 price. Was that the coupon you were referring to, or was there another one?

  • I saved 146.00 this week, which was over 70 percent of my order. My store only allows 4 offers on an item. I have 5 in my family (and usually a few extras every night for dinner, my sons friends) so when there is a sale i stock up…but I never clear the shelves, and I never buy stuff we wont use before expiration…..space is a commodity as well!

My husband and I love pasta. Especially spaghetti! I always have tons of boxes stockpilled (most free or $.50 or something). I also have tons of pasta sauce stocked up, as well as making my own, and canning/freezing it! It comes out being cheaper per jar/container because I make it from my stockpile of diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, etc that I picked up free/cheap also.

As for the bread! I’ve found the most frugal way to get bread is bake it yourself. Here is my favorite recipe, all my friends beg my to make this bread, they say it’s simply wonderful (I do think it’s pretty good). Super easy and cheap!! Could make a bunch and freeze it, if you wanted it on hand!!
