How We Make Money

Over the past 7 years we’ve been asked one question over and over and over.  “If your website is free to the user, how do you make money?”

It is really mind blowing isn’t it? A couple of mom’s that really weren’t even computer savvy 8 years ago, are now making money with a blog!  Weird, we know.  But the answer is really quite simple.

How two ordinary moms make an extraordinary income through blogging

The 3 Ways We Produce Income Blogging

  1. Advertising – Many brands come to us to share their coupons, products or messages. We partner with companies like Albertsons, Walgreens, Target, Dove, Rite Aid, Tyson, T-Mobile, Kohls, Walmart, Mead, Schick, Kroger, Magnum, Dollar General, Nuk, Ragu, Suave and more. We are pretty particular about the coupons, products and messages that we share because we want to be talking about things that will make a positive difference for YOU!
  2. Ad Networks – You may notice some ads in our sidebar or in our posts. We are partnered with the good people at Adthrive Network, a company that works with an array of networks (such as Google Adsense), that want to serve ads on our site.  Way back in 2009, when we first put an ad on Fabulessly Frugal, we were soooo nervous about it!  We were worried about people being bothered by ads, so we put it at the very bottom of the site (and made about $14 a month – ha ha). But then, over time, we realized that #1, ads are all over the internet and #2 if people liked what we offered on our site, it wasn’t going to be a bother to them.  When we were more strategic about ad placement, we realized that when people take interest in the ads, click on them to learn more or participate in an offer, we will make money.   AND we have an array of advertisers we block.  For example, we do not like Victoria Secret models showing up in their underwear on our site, so we customize our ads to block that sort of material (feel free to let us know if you see something inappropriate on our site so we can let our ad network know!).
  3. Affiliate Offers – We are affiliate partners with many companies like Amazon, Kohl’s, Jane (Cathy’s favorite place to shop for clothing online), and more (you can see a long list here). We enjoy finding deals on sites that we like (and we think you’ll like too).  When you click through one of our links to purchase something we’ve shared, we make a small commission (1-10%).   In most cases, even if you don’t purchase something we link to, we will still get a commission on whatever it is you do buy (because our link dropped a cookie).  It’s a win win really!  We do the work and find some great deals, you save some money by shopping online, we get a commission from your shopping, and the advertiser is happy because they made some money from you. We also have partnered with wellness company so that we can teach you how to make money from home. Learn more about that here.

So why are we telling you this?  The next time someone asks us this question we can just send them a link to this blog post. Haha. But we also wanted to let you know!

If you appreciate the service we provide…

…now you know how you can thank us!  When you choose to shop online, simply click through our links first.  Your small effort is what keeps a roof over our heads and food on our table.  AND you’re not only helping me and Monica, you’re blessing the stay at home moms that work on our team! The whole Fabulessly Frugal team benefits when you come to our site and click around and shop from our links.  SO THANK YOU!

When you shop online…

Rather than fight the crowds at the mall to shop for items on your Christmas list, consider clicking on this button when you see it on our sidebar.  This takes you to a page that will help you find coupon codes that can be used in store (and online!).

What a Blessing It’s Been…

If someone would have told me 7 years ago that this little blog we started would keep my family from foreclosing on a home, filing for bankruptcy, and be the source of income my family needed to survive, I would NOT have believed you!  It’s been such a blessing for me personally as I’ve been able to work through hard times, all while being at home with my children.  (If you want to know more about my personal story, you can read about it here and here).

So there you have it…

you can see why this time of year is so busy for us.  We know you are shopping, and we know you love to get our gift ideas and deals!  When people learn how we make money and how they can help us, they are always happy to come to our site and click on some shopping links before they purchase.

Would you like to learn more about starting your own blog and making money like we have?  Is this something you’d like us to tell you more about in 2016?  Leave a comment below and let us know… it’s definitely something we’ve considered taking the time to share more about as we’ve learned how to do all of this on our own since 2008!

Again, thank you for your continued support!

I don’t go on ur website everyday but when I do go on, I scroll until I have seen everything that has been posted. Especially the recipes! My top 3 best recipes from this site are: THE HAM (as my sisters have renamed) -Sweet Baked Ham is the official name and although it is a little time consuming and a little messy (boil over) it is SOOO worth it. I tried bringing a spiral crock pot ham (the pineapple juice one) to Easter earlier this year and was almost asked to leave and come back with “The Ham”. lol The slow cooker honey garlic meatballs are always a hit and super easy. The chocolate cake is scrumptious and I will never waste calories on a boxed cake mix ever again. Ever.

Thank you ladies (and men, well, one man) 😉

I have been interested in blogging but since my 16 yr old son got killed on 12/18/14, that has intensified. He touched so many people & brought them to Jesus, I’m still finding out 11 months later. Thank you & God bless

I would be interested in learning more about the “how” of your site. I am starting to do more in the way of online shopping deals, mostly through affiliate links, but am a bit overwhelmed.
