The normal upgrade version (which is still pro, and will can be upgraded with media player for free) is $40 without having to spend money and get a credit back. Unless you build computers at home (Which I doubt many of the people on this site do) this isn’t the version you need. This is the disk meant for system builders.

PS: I think Windows 8 sucks personally too, even though I’m a huge Microsoft fangirl.

And yes, you can get it online for $39.99 the day of (http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/bloggingwindows/archive/2012/07/02/upgrade-to-windows-8-pro-for-39-99.aspx) BUT keep in mind that if if you ever need to reinstall your machine from scratch, you would have to install your previous version of windows and then run the upgrade again. Having the CD allows you to reinstall straight to the Windows 8. So if your computer ever blows up, it’s a good idea to have the boxed copy. If you go to Best Buy or the Microsoft store on 10/26, you’ll pay $69.99 for the boxed version. Buying it here on Amazon is the best deal on the boxed version.

My computer died doing an update for Vista (the perpetuall Configuring 3 of 3 Loop). I didn’t have any disks but I was still able to refomat everything (after about a week of trying) and it kept Windows Vista. I don’t know why. I bought my computer at Best Buy and it already had that installed.
