Got Weeds? Easy Homemade Solutions to Get Rid of Them!

I did not have to venture far into the yard to find an abundance of weeds for this experiment.

I had read that vinegar works very well for getting rid of weeds in your lawn and garden. The main issue with vinegar is that it can harm other plants.

So using a foam paintbrush to brush the vinegar directly onto the leaves of weeds you’re trying to kill is an effective approach.   Don’t be dainty about it, it will take way too much time.  Just dob it onto the weed getting as much of the leaves as possible.

Boiling Water for Sidewalk Weeds

Boil some water, and pour it over weeds in the cracks of your sidewalks or driveways. Most weeds can’t stand up to this treatment, and your problem is solved. Just be careful when pouring!

But if you have some really stubborn weeds, you can try diluting a few teaspoons of water into some white vinegar and pouring that onto your sidewalk weeds. Please note that this concoction will kill just about any plant it comes in contact with, so keep it away from your other plants, as well as your lawn.

By having just a handful of inexpensive items on hand, you can take care of most common gardening dilemmas in your own, green way.

  • Great, however, I think I will need to use a spray bottle. With all the rain during the spring the weeds really took hold and are difficult to get rid of.

I had a weed sprayer that we used to spray vinegar onto the walls of our new-to-us house to get rid of some nasty wallpaper (seriously nothing in the world works better to get it off!) I couldn’t get rid of our weeds by pulling them so I used what was left in the sprayer and it worked like a charm! Even killed the morning glory growing up through the deck. BUT do this on a very warm day with no breeze and no chance of rain. I LOVE vinegar!

I have used this before and it really works. I would not be without vinegar in my home. I have gotten rid of strep throat by gargling with vinegar water and I also drink vinegar water every day and I have gotten rid of Acid Reflux and all of the medicine I took for it.

My husband is on his way to the store right now to pick up a couple of gallons. We have the worst weed infestation you could imagine in our backyard. We’ve tried everything on the market so hopefully this does the trick.

I have tried using vinegar and it just doesn’t work unless it’s really hot outside, 85 or above. At least that was my experience.

  • I would have never thought of using vinegar to kill weeds. I love it. It’s so natural and simple. Thanks for sharing

If I spray a giant area in the back yard will it be harmful to my dogs?

    • I would keep them inside for a an hour or so, because if they consume a lot of it, they’ll have an upset tummy, but vinegar is safe for pets, in small amounts. 🙂
