Give Back and Just Serve
Every year when the holidays come around, our favorite part is seeing people feeling inspired to give to others. We have such a good feeling this time of year and want it to last all year long. Many times on Fabulessly Frugal we have tried to rally people to give back. In the past few years, we’ve run into roadblocks executing our ideas because we are not a non-profit organization. We’ve always wanted to use our blog as a tool to give back to our community. That’s why we are excited to share a new resource with you today!
Recently we discovered a website that lists opportunities to serve in your community. You do not have to plan your own service project or coordinate supplies, logistics and volunteers. You just have to show up and help! It’s as simple as that!
Sunday, Monica was looking through this website JustServe, looking for a good opportunity to serve and she stumbled upon the perfect project. JC Penney and the Salvation Army have teamed up give local children warm clothes for winter. They need 85 volunteers to come and help kids shop for clothes early Saturday morning. There is $100 budget per child. Perfect! We get to teach kids how to get the most for their money and help them get warm clothes for winter. Sign us up!
If you are in the Nampa or Boise area we invite you to join us for this project this Saturday! You will want to choose the Dress a Child BOISE 2015! You can find it here. Hope to see you there! Let us know if you need help signing up? You will have to click over to the Salvation Army website to do so.
AND if you’d like to join us on future volunteer opportunities, sign up here and we’ll send you an email when we’re signing up to serve in the Treasure Valley! We’d love to have a team of fab readers! —-> click here
If you are anywhere else in the country, we invite you to log on to JustServe and look for a way to serve in your area. Many areas are already involved and more are being added all the time.
Cathy and I have been talking about how we want to do more to help our own little families realize the true meaning of Christmas. Serving others is the key to this. We have often talked about volunteering to serve food at a homeless shelter, but have not known where to start. We are grateful that we found JustServe. It makes it so easy to find ways to give back.
Set a Goal
We are making personal goals to find several ways to serve every month throughout the holiday season. We also plan to carry it on into the new year! Too often, like most people, we get into “giving back” during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, but then it all drops off when the new year hits. Our hope is to get our families involved in giving back all year round… and in so doing, we will have really captured the true meaning of Christmas.
We hope you join us! Declare your goal for service in the comment section below! Let’s get out there and JustServe!
