Fresh Chicken is Coming!

Hey Treasure Valley your Fresh Chicken for $1.59/lb is arriving tomorrow!

Are you ready?

Have you cleaned out your freezer? EEEKS. I need to do that! You are going to want to set aside an hour or so this weekend to get your chicken freezer ready! So I thought it might be nice of me to repost our video showing you how to get chicken freezer ready!

Don’t mind my lack of make-up or Kearna’s sleeping child. This is real life baby! 🙂

To recap, here are a few tips for storing cheap and fresh chicken breasts!

  • Use kitchen shears to trim the chicken… super easy!
  • Bag the chicken breasts side by side in a gallon sized bag.  Makes for simple storage!
    • Only need one or two breasts?  Simply toss the bag of 6 frozen chicken breasts on a concrete floor (patio/garage floor) so the chicken breaks apart.  Open the bag, pull out a breast or two, reseal the bag and put it in the freezer! (I took video of me doing this, but can’t get it off my phone!).
  • You can also cook chicken (I like to do it in the crock pot), let it cool a bit, shred it or cube it, and the bag it.  Great to use for casseroles, salads, and soups!
  • Put some FREE salad dressing (Ranch or Italian – yummy!) or BBQ Sauce or a favorite marinade in the bad with the chicken!  Then when you’re ready to eat it, pull it out the night before and it will soak and marinade all day long while it thaws!

I know some people can their chicken, so if you are a canner this would be a great way to go!

So kind of a random question…I saw that you were using the Hefty brand of bags. Do you think that those are the best kind? I have a huge problem with the ziploc brand leaking when I defrost my frozen meals. Any advice would be WONDERFUL!!!

    • Monica

We used Hefty because that is just what we had at the time. The little zip things speed it up slightly! We usually use Ziploc freezer bags and when I defrost I will put it in a grocery bad or a bowl if I am worried about it leaking.

I have a pressure cooker and I will be canning a lot of my chicken this time. It is super eay to can, store and use.

The Zaycon people may call Lewiston, Pullman, Kamiah, and Grangeville CENTRAL Idaho but I don’t and I don’t think most Idahoans do either. Might want to make a note of that in the post for others who don’t read the cities, just the bold.

OMG! The Zycon folks had their hands full today, didn’t they? I waited patiently in a traffic jam for over 1hour for my chicken. The nice young man who put my chicken in the car said that he has never seen this kind of traffic. He stated that they plan to prepare better next time. I was happy to see so many people get chicken….and I cannot wait to try mine. Bon Appetit!

  • MaMaLaLa

Yes, it was crazy busy. They will have to do some traffic control next time. I just made some fajitas with my chicken. All chicken is trimmed and I am beginning to seal the chicken now. Love the chicken- 2nd time we ordered. We also did the lean beef last time- boy is that my new favorite beef!

  • Becky FabFruGal

I pulled out , 5 cases of chicken in hand, after exactly 40 minutes… Now, where the HECK am I going to put 200 LBS of chicken?!?!
Fixing the traffic problem will be easy for them, do 4 lines instead of 2, and have 2x the workers :). It wasn’t too bad! The lines are longer at Disney 🙂

Oh shoot I can’t believe I missed this! I was sure to order it next time around and I’m bummed I missed it. How often do they come and can I be notified when they are coming?
