Fab Family Fun: Fishing Ponds!
Today we are making a fishing pond! This can be as simple or as elaborate as you want.
You will need:
Paper to make fish
Crayons, Markers, etc.
A Bed Sheet
A Broom Stick
Some Ribbon or String
A Refrigerator Clip
Help your kids cut and decorate some fish for the pond. These can be simple, like the orange one, or you can get a little bit more creative.
Then, drape a sheet over the back of the couch and tape the fish to it. This is your fishing pond!
You will now need to make a fishing pole. I used a broomstick, a piece of ribbon, and a refrigerator magnet clip. Use whatever you already have around. You can use yarn instead of ribbon, any kind of stick, etc. Tie the clip to the ribbon and the ribbon to the stick.
Finally, kneel behind the couch so the kids can’t see you and have them fish over the couch. Clip something to the pole and tug on the ribbon so they know they have caught something.
When playing this at home, the focus is on fishing. You don’t have to buy new things to clip to the pole every time. If it’s snack time, clip snacks to it. Fruit snacks, granola bars, or fruit or pretzels in baggies clip on easily. Otherwise, you can clip toys you already have to it. The one shown below is a little tambourine I grabbed from our toy room. If I did want something new, I would still try to find things I already had. My kids are always raiding my scrapbook area and stealing my stickers, so they would be thrilled if I clipped stickers to it they didn’t have to plan a secret mission to obtain.
If you want to use this idea for a birthday party or other group gathering, you can find little prizes at the dollar store or in the party or dollar section of most stores.
