Fab Family Fun: Dipping Chocolates
Today we’re dipping our own chocolates!
I buy the chocolate discs (called chocolate meltys) at Winco in the bulk foods section. The milk chocolate is $2.28/lb and the white chocolate is $2.08/lb. I like these because you don’t have to add oil to them or anything, just melt and dip!
First, put the discs in a glass bowl and microwave them in 30-40 second intervals, stirring after each one until melted.
This time around, I kept it very simple and just dipped three things: strawberries, cinnamon bears, and caramels.
For things like caramels and cinnamon bears, you can either dip them half way or drop them in to completely cover them. Then remove them with a spoon and set them on wax paper to harden.
For strawberries, dip as much of the strawberry as you like. I like mine covered as much as possible! After you wash your strawberries, make sure they are completely dry before dipping them. It is also best to dip them when they are at room temperature.
To add a finishing touch, melt some white chocolate and put it in a plastic bag. Cut the very tip of the bag off and use it to drizzle designs on your treats.
Here is the final result.
I had some left over chocolate at the end, so I threw some pretzels in to use it up!
Other things I like to dip:
Rice Krispy Treats
Fat Pretzel Sticks
In a random discovery, some of the girls I’ve done this with before decided they like to dip Ruffles potato chips in chocolate. I wasn’t a huge fan, but they were crazy about them. You can dip whatever floats your boat!
Just a note if you want to dip cinnamon bears: I had a heck of a time finding them. I could not find them at Target or Winco. I even went to World Market, and they had ginger bears (?!) and gummy pandas, but no cinnamon bears. I didn’t try any other grocery stores but finally found them at Maverick!
