DIY Kid’s Folding Table Redo

We have had this folding table FOREVER, probably around 8 years and it has seen better days. My girls LOVE to have tea parties and always use this nasty table. I looked at it and decided it would be really easy to take apart and spruce up for just a few dollars.

Here is what you need:

Use a screwdriver to remove the top of the table from the base.

table redo-7

Tape the feet with Painter’s tape

Take it outside and spray paint it. I put a box down so I wouldn’t turn my grass blue!

I love the Krylon Spray Paint because you can change the nozzle for how you are spraying. You can get some here.

It took about 2 coats to paint the table. I let it dry between coats.

While it is drying, you can cover the table. I got my flannel backed vinyl material from hobby lobby. It cost under $3 for a yard. You could also use a table cloth.

I left the other table top on, but you can remove it if you want. Use the staple gun to staple the material to the table top.

Trim it close to the edge so you can screw it back to the base.

table redo-16

Hammer in any staples that didn’t go all the way in.

Now you are ready to screw it back to the table base.

My girls were so excited for their “new” table. It only cost my $3 to do because I already had the spray paint! I loved that!!

  • I love this idea Marji. I have a similar card table that my hubs just got pinewood derby spray paint all over. I am now inspired to make it look fab again!

Did you use a whole can of spraypaint for the table? I’m planning to do this for a table and 4 folding chairs. I bought 2 cans of Krylon spraypaint. Do you think this would be enough? Thanks!

    • Marji

Probably only half a can if that much. 2 cans should be more than enough to do the table and chairs. I have some folding chairs I’ve been wanting to do too! Good luck!

Do you think you could do the chairs that go with the set the same way? I know they have cushions too so I’m not sure how that would work!

Tried this but stapling would not work. The particle board was too hard and the staples don’t go in. I even tried putting my weight on it to no avail. 🙁

I tried to staple and the staples went through the fabric the suggestions? Should I be using light duty or heavy duty staples?
