DIY Monogram Canvas {Picture Tutorial}

Today I’m going to show you how to make this fun Monogramed Canvas. It makes a perfect wedding or shower gift. It costs under $10 to make {which always a bonus in my book!}

Here’s what you need:

Canvas Monowhite-20

1 12×12 canvas

Wooden Letter

12×12 sheet of Scrapbook paper

3 different coordinating ribbons

Mod Podge

Acrylic Paint

Sponge brush

Red Line tape

Metal Label Holder

First you want to paint the edges of your canvas. I used Folk Art Pure Black. I picked my canvas up at HobLlob & used my coupon so I got it for $4.

It is okay to paint on the top part of the canvas in case the paper doesn’t go all the way to the edge.

While the canvas is drying paint your wooden letter. I got mine at Hob Lob for $1.99.  I used Delta Caribbean Blue paint. It took about 4 coats to get it looking right for me. Some colors take less, just paint it until you like how it looks

Make sure you paint the inner and outer edges. I like to paint on wax paper, it doesn’t stick to the paint and it is cheap.

Once the edges of the canvas are dry put your paper on and see if it lines up, I had to do a little trimming with my scissors to make sure the paper wouldn’t hang over

Now you are going to brush a thin coat of mod podge on your canvas

and then on your paper,

Then you carefully put the paper on the canvas, pushing out any bubbles. I put my canvas face down with a heavy book on top while it dried. I let mine dry for about an hour.

While it is drying I printed my label on on paper

And cut it to fit inside the label holder. I have a stash of these metal label holders, but you can find them at any craft store or here.

Tie the 3 ribbons on your letter

Next put some Red Line tape on the paper and label holder. If you don’t have any of this {awesome} tape you can use your glue gun. {Red line tape is a super strong tape , it is great for permanent applications.}

Canvas Monowhite-13

To use it you cut it to the length you need it, put on the back of the surface then remove the top layer of red backing.  Put the label centered on the bottom of your canvas.

Apply the Red Line tape to the back of your letter. This tape is so strong you don’t have to use a lot of it.

Canvas Monowhite-14

Peel off the red backing and place it on your canvas where you want it, once it is down you can’t move it so be careful and get it placed right.

Now it is ready to hang up in your house or give as a gift.

Canvas Monowhite-17

Here’s on that I made for myself years ago, I used an 8×8 canvas for it. I love this gift idea because you can customize it for whoever you are making it for to match the décor of their home.
