DIY Carpet Shampoo- Just add water!
Have you ever had those last bits of laundry detergent left at the bottom of your container? There’s just not enough detergent to use in a load and you can’t just get it all to pour out anyway. Annoying, right? Well, I’ve decided to do something about it! With the addition of a little water to the bottle, I’ve managed to use that little bit of detergent left in my carpet shampooing machine!
Now, here’s a side note: be sure to pay attention to your manufacturer’s warranty! If its under warranty, be sure to use the recommended carpet detergent. Lucky for me, my machine is way past any warranty period.
Here we go!
Take your almost empty bottle of laundry detergent and add water to it. I used filtered water because I wanted to eliminate any extra minerals and such that could ruin my machine (I do that anyway with the tank water).
Now, add your water and shake up your bottle! After shaking it up, I let it sit for a few hours so the detergent would blend into the water. After a few hours, pour your mixture into your carpet shampooer’s detergent tank. My detergent was concentrated, so I treated it the same way I would concentrated carpet detergent. I added water first, then added my soap to the soap dispenser.
Now, you’re ready to roll! Use your carpet shampooer as usual! I didn’t do a before and after picture because the difference between this and the commercial carpet shampoo is the scent! I’m not sure why but I have never been able to find a carpet shampoo that smells worth a darn! This one worked perfectly and smelled amazing!! Added bonus, the $25 saved buying a small bottle of carpet shampoo!!
I hope you find this DIY helpful and that it saves you a few bucks the next time you have to clean your carpet!
