Meet Dawn…

Dawn’s expertise on… I am the store expert for Safeway and Kmart. I also do the Kmart double trips.  A lot of people don’t like to shop at Kmart, but it is honestly one of my favorite stores to coupon at because of all the promos, catalinas, and double deals they have.  Safeway is a fun store too, as they constantly have new in store coupons and clearance deals.

The most frugal thing Dawn has ever done is… learning to coupon right. I started using coupons when my first daughter was born, (8+ years ago) mostly just on diapers.  I thought it was fun and started using EVERY coupon I got from the catalina machine, in the mail, etc…not very smart.  I even ventured out to get a Sunday paper and for some reason (holiday weekend?) I got one with no coupons.  So I kind of abandoned the whole coupon thing (thank goodness since I was doing it totally wrong).  I still used them on diapers and a few things, but resigned to shopping at the warehouse grocery store instead.  The problem, I was spending a ton!  Then I started making shopping lists and I saved some, but not very much.  Then about a three years ago, I was watching television and caught a couponing story. You know the kind, where the lady loads up her cart and spends like $12. My husband said, I bet you could do that!  And the challenge was on.  I looked up her website and googled a little bit, but everywhere wanted to charge me money to get the coupon matchups. I thought it was stupid to pay money to save money, so I abandoned my coupon dreams again. Then a few weeks later I discovered some of the FREE blog sites, including Fabulessly Frugal and a light bulb went off…this is how people did it. I have never looked back!

Dawn’s frugal fashion tips… I love to shop at Macy’s One Day Sales! I hit the clearance racks with a $10/$25 coupon and score big. I also love Ross and TJ Maxx. I love end of the season clearance sales for buying clothes for kids.

Dawn’s favorite place to shop online… I am not a huge online shopper, but if I need something I look on Amazon.  I also am a total sucker for free shipping and Gym Bucks!

Dawn is not always frugal…I like nice things, and I really like nice things when I can avoid paying full price! Sometimes I splurge though. We are also a big entertainment family and sometimes spend more on that than we probably should. I always do research on big purchases and sometimes the higher price might win out based on reviews and quality.

Every family size can coupon…  My family currently consists of myself, my husband, and four children. I am happy if I spend $75/week. That doesn’t always happen, but it is my goal.

This is what Dawn HAS TO have that is not frugal… DVR, once you have it, you wonder how you ever watched TV before.

Dawn’s favorite thing to stockpile… I love to stockpile diapers! I am so excited to get the name brands for way less than generic.

Dawn realized she was addicted to couponing when… I discovered a buy $30 get $15 back catalina sale and I could use COUPONS TOO! I also found Rite Aid SCR program about this time and was like, why has no one told me about this before!

Do you think Dawn would still coupon if she had 1 million dollars… Of course, it has become a way of life. Plus, just because you have more money doesn’t mean you should be careless with it. Oh, and I would buy all the car carts and destroy them, your welcome moms!

This is how couponing changed Dawn’s life… It gives me a chance to make mundane tasks, like grocery shopping and menu planning fun. I like the challenge of figuring out scenarios and savings. I also love to be the first to try new products and share exciting deals with my friends and even strangers. And of course, we have some food storage and I save money.
