Buying Apples in Bulk: Plus a Boise Area Deal

ways to use apples

I love to get good deals on produce! When I get a good deal I  buy a lot and I preserve my produce for later. Check out some of my ideas for preserving produce. Since apples are in season right now I am going to share some ideas for using your apples when you get a good deal and buy a lot.

My general rule at the grocery store or farmers market is to buy apples when they are $0.99/lb or less. I typically do not even buy them unless they meet that price point. (Find more of my price points here.) So I get really excited when I can get them for much less than that. Check with local farms in your area to see if you can find a good deal. If you live in my area you do not have to hunt for a good deal because I found one for you that I am excited to share.

  • Scary Apple Mouths: I love to make these with peanut butter. One of my favorite snacks.
  • Apple Turkey: Fun craft for your young children.
  • Shrink some heads – Have the kids carve pumpkin faces in the apples. Soak in water with a little bit of lemon juice and salt. Then let them dry out for 1-2 weeks. They will get shriveled and look like scary faces. You can attach them to a skewer and then make clothes for your little goblins.
  • Honey Lime Fruit Kabobs: Fun for kids and grown ups alike.
