Cash Back Credit Cards (save more on everyday purchases!)

I have the TrueEarnings® Card from Costco and American Express. I like it because there is no annual fee and I get 3% back on gas, 2% back on dining and travel  and 1% on everything else. Cash back credit cards are great for everyday purchases when you don’t carry a monthly balance. The typical cash back rate is 1% or 1.5 points on all purchases, however most cash back cards offer higher rates on specific types of purchases. For example, a cash back card may offer 1% cash back on all purchases but 3% cash back on specific purchases like gas or groceries. Finding the card with the best cash back rate for the types of purchases that you make is the key to maximizing your savings with cash back cards. Oooo I love my Blue Cash Preferred card! American Express has outstanding customer service and on top of unbeatable 6% grocery store reward rates this card has many bonuses available for specific qualifying purchases. For instance after adding the offer to my card at americanexpress.com, I can get $25 off any $75 purchase at Staples even if I use a coupon.

If you spend more than $2500 on groceries each year, the $75 annual fee is worth it compared to the free Blue Cash card which offers 3%. There is a $6000 annual spending cap for the 6% on groceries (1% thereafter). You can earn as much as you want on gas (3%) and other purchases (1%) with no limits.

Would have loved to see some commentary on responsible credit card use. You still earn rewards for every dollar spent if you pay off your credit card every month and even if you pay it down regularly between statements (to keep your balance-to-credit-limit ratio between 5-20% for the sake of your credit score). Carry a balance and you’ll quickly negate the benefit of any rewards!
