Beat the Summer Slump with Learning Games

Learning Games

Keep the Learning Going this Summer!

I woke up today and realized that we are half way through the month of July already…the summer has gone by so quickly and I have loved having the extra time to play with the kids and just enjoy the break together. But I was also jolted back into “school mode” this morning as we only have a little over a month until school starts up again.

We have been doing the summer reading program at the Library so reading continues to be a part of our daily summer routine, but I am eager to get the kids back into action with some learning games. I already have several we like to play, but I’d like to grab a few new ones for my big kids now since they’ve outgrown several of the ones they’ve been playing for years. If you’re in the same “school mode” as me, I thought I’d pass along some of my favorites and show you the ones I’m getting for the bigger kids.

I love these Brain Quest Questions! I have 4 of them, and am thinking that I’ll put one in the car for while we’re at stoplights as we drive around town, and then also keep one near the dinner table to start conversations and a “Dinner Trivia” game while we eat.

  • This is another one of our family’s favorites! Sometimes we’ll play this at dinner, or during family fun night. This could be used to develop writing by having the bigger kids write out the story they are making. This also helps to teach sequencing to the little ones as they see the sequence of the cubes and build on the story as it goes.
