Are Catalina’s Going Away?

catalinacatalina printingcatalina hand off

This month we went to update our current catalinas list and there were hardly any catalinas to be found. The company that usually notifies us about the catalinas, The Coupon Network is going out on business at the end of the year. We are getting pretty nervous that this might mean the end of catalinas.

Just in case you do not know what I am talking about Find Out…What Are Catalinas Find out how to… Find Out About Catalinas.

So do you know? Are catalinas going away? Feel free to share in the comments if you have any good information. We will be sure to update you as we find out more!

UPDATE:

In a Coupon Network notice on facebook they announced that December 11th, 2013 will be the last day to receive savings from CouponNetwork.com. In the comments they notified that, “Catalina coupons will still be available in stores, but not on CouponNetwork.com after December 11th. To find out what offers are running at participating stores, you can check the retailer ad, circular, offer announcement prints or visit the Customer Service Desk.”

Basically I think it means we need to pay attention to the upcoming printouts and share them. You can share your current catalina finds here!  The good news is it looks like they are here to stay!

    Why is CouponNetwork shutting down?
The decision to shut down CouponNetwork.com wasn’t easy and we are thankful to have had the opportunity to provide valuable savings to you through CouponNetwork.com! Our parent corp, Catalina, has provided savings at checkout in retailers throughout the world for over 25 years. We’ve decided to focus exclusively on growing that in-store presence and expanding into online and mobile – all in partnership with our retailers to provide valuable savings to you.

Maybe we will see more savings that can be directly loaded to our store cards? Not sure, but I do very much hope that we get to keep these small perks; they have helped a lot at times.
On another note: Does anyone know why Fred Meyer stopped giving credit for reusable bags? I went to my local FM today to grab some of the sales (which of course were out of stock, I was lucky to find a end cap display with some Cream of Chicken left) but when I went to the check out, one of the cashiers said that FM stopped the reusable bag credit today. *BUMMER*

I was handed a slip at FM checkout today explaining, it says “Given all the Reusable Bags you use today, the bag refund program has reached its goals and is now coming to an end. As our thanks for your commitment to reusable bags and sustainability, we’re making a $20,000 donation to The Nature Conservancy.”

I have not been to a store in years where the Catalina’s are not turned off. Stores/cashiers must consider them a pain in the neck.

As others have said, I think they are clear enough that the point-of-sale portion of the business will gain new focus rather than wither away. I feel like they could do much better to promote awareness of the catalina offerings; that’s one type of deal I rarely keep track of. Hopefully any efforts they make in the mobile space will bring those and other deals to light in a more convenient way.

My primary concern is what will happen with Target printable coupons and other third parties that use the technology offered by The Coupon Network. Will Target have to make yet another change to their coupon platform and if so will that be good or bad news for those of us that use Target coupons weekly?

catalinas were around long before cpn network site so i think they will definately be around after CN says goodbye. i do agree that we all need to be sure and share more when we do get a catalina so there is a database for others to find out about them. I still will be sad to see CN go though.
