52 Weeks of Pinterest: Week 22 – Fourth of July Layered Drinks!

This year I wanted to go with a resolution I would have no problem sticking to! Then as I was pinning an item on Pinterest, a light bulb flashed on above my head. Ok, maybe not literally, but this great idea popped into my head. Those of us who are Pinterest users know that we pin hundreds of things a week, but do we ever do them? So I decided this year I would do one of my pins every week. At the moment, 52 weeks of Pinterest was born. Each week I will do something I found on Pinterest rather it be a craft, new recipe, organizing technique, or whatever!

This week I decided to go with a pin from the Fourth of July Board: Fourth of July Layered Drinks!

The minute I saw these drinks on Pinterest, I knew I had to try it out! They look so cool, and having little ones around, you know they would love it too.

Want to make these fun drinks too?

What you will need:

Cranberry Apple Juice Cocktail
White Sobe (Pina Colada)
Blue G2 Gatorade
Ice

There is a little science behind this drink, which would make a great topic of conversation with the little ones when you make these drinks by the way!

The secret to layering colors in a drink is sugar content … and a lot of ice.

You need to look at the sugar content in each drink and make sure to layer from the highest number to the smallest. The more sugar content, the “heavier” the liquid. So you want to put your heaviest down first. You can use your own beverage choices, just make sure you follow the sugar rule!

Take your Cranberry Apple Juice Cocktail (or your heaviest color) and pour into an empty glass, about â…“ of the way of up. Once your cup isÂ â…“ full of Cranberry juice, now fill the sucker to the rim with ice.

Now you can take your next heaviest color, in my case was the white Sobe, and pour it SLOWLY and directly on top of the ice. You will pour aboutÂ â…“ here as well.

Repeat with your final color, mine was the Blue G2 Gatorade.

Put a straw in it and call it done.

This was so much fun for my little ones and perfect drinks for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday. You could even get a bag of the clear plastic cups and make a pile of these for your Fourth of July BBQ! Your guest will be amazed! 🙂

Another cool thing here is that you could totally play around with other colors for other occasions. Red, White, Green for Cinco De Mayo, Reds and Pinks for Valentines Day. The list really is endless and so much fun.

Also – they taste really good!! When you use a straw to drink it, like you should, you drink 1 flavor at a time. Which I thought was pretty cool. 🙂 The nerd in me is smiling right now.
