2012 Grocery Budget Challenge {Week 2}

Last week we launched our 2012 Grocery Budget Challenge…

Did you miss it?  If so, it’s not too late to join!  Here are the details about our 2012 Grocery Budget Challenge.

It is time to share how you did last week… did you stay within budget?

I must admit… setting a weekly budget has been good for me.  The craziness of last fall and the holidays got my couponing efforts off track, so it’s nice to be focusing again.  I hesitated publicly joining this challenge for a few reasons…

  1. My family is big, so my budget is naturally much larger than my counterparts (that’s OK because like we said, we aren’t competing with each other).
  2. Since my plate has been abundantly full over the past, well, who knows how long, my couponing efforts have slowed.  I’ve just been stocking up on my most favorite things, and then sending the hubs off to do supplemental shopping (not my best idea, it gets expensive, but we’ve swapped roles over the past several months).
  3. Because I haven’t been keeping up on it, I’m no longer in “maintenance mode”… so I’m spending more.

BUT, it’s just how my life is right now and that’s how I’m going to report it.  Am I disappointing people?  Probably so.  Am I being real?  You bet.

One other thing to note, I’m only reporting food in my budget.  Because my personal care stockpile has nearly dwindled to nothing, I need to watch for good sales on the stuff I use.  In the mean time, if I need toilet paper or toothpaste, I’m not going to wait for a sale.  I’m going to buy what I need at Costco.  Same for diapers.  I’ve just been getting the monthly shipment from Amazon (love it!).   And quite frankly, I have a hard time keeping much of a stockpile with my growing crew of 7 kids (ages 2 to almost 16).  30 cups of yogurt devoured in 3 days.   9 gallons of milk a week.  It’s been a challenge to stay ahead of my littles.  So doing $125 a week seems pretty fantastic to me!

Last weeks winner…

It was thrilling to see nearly 300 entries into our challange and giveaway!   Randomly selected to win a $20.00 Amazon gift card is…
