Healthy Breakfast Smoothie Recipe Under 200 Calories

I have recently been eating this low-calorie smoothie recipe or a variation of it each morning for my breakfast. My kids and I both love how it tastes and I love that it is so healthy – it’s under 200 calories!

This healthy breakfast smoothie recipe works well with any of these types of juice and more: apple juice, orange juice, or mango peach apple juice.

Juice and yogurt in blender

Ingredients

There are only 5 ingredients for this low-calorie strawberry smoothie (plus a blender) so it’s pretty simple!

I get the frozen strawberries from Costco because it’s cheaper to buy them frozen than fresh. The other great thing about using frozen strawberries is you do not need to have ice.

I also get my spinach and frozen fruit blend from Costco. I buy whichever juice is on sale. Then I just need a vanilla yogurt! I often use vanilla Greek yogurt for more protein.

Use whichever frozen fruit blend sounds good to you and will go well with the strawberries! I chose a tropical blend that includes strawberries, pineapple, and mango.

Adding Your Ingredients to the Blender

For best results with your blender, you want to add your easiest to blend items first. So I add my ingredients in this exact order:

  1. Juice
  2. Yogurt
  3. Spinach
  4. Fruit blend
  5. Frozen strawberries

Blender Tips

I let my ingredients blend on their own and then start using my plunger to push the ingredients down to the blades.

I like to use my Vitamix blender to make my smoothies, but the Blendtec Blender is also a great machine for making whole fruit smoothies.

This Healthy Low Calorie Smoothie is Great for Kids!

Look how this healthy smoothie starts to turn more of a purple or red as the strawberries blend in. My kids are more willing to drink a smoothie that is not green in color. Although it is green in vitamins. Check out the full recipe below.

Smoothie Freezer Tips

This recipe makes (3) 16 oz servings or (6) 8 oz servings if you can fit the full 3 cups of each fruit in your blender.

I like to enjoy a 16 oz smoothie, then freeze 2 more servings of the smoothie in freezer bags to blend up again the next day! Freezing the smoothie packs saves me some time and makes it easier to calculate how many calories are in each one because I have already done it the day before.

Blending From Frozen

When blending a 16 oz portion of this smoothie, just add a half cup of water at the bottom of your blender before blending.

Place the bag under a little warm water and break the smoothie pack in half so it is easier to get into the blender. I then put my bags in the freezer and reuse them the next time I make a smoothie.

Final Thoughts

Like I said above, although this isn’t your typical green smoothie recipe, it’s really healthy, great for breakfast, and perfect for kids. Just goes to show your smoothie doesn’t have to be the color green to be healthy!

To make this TerraFit friendly, skip the juice and just use water! You’ll also want to make sure the yogurt has less than 20 grams carbs per serving.
