Do you want to save money every time you go to the store?
Spend less by spending with cash only!
Each week, set aside the amount of cash your budget allows for the week in groceries and other expenses. Put the money in an envelop or in a special place in your wallet.
When the bills run out, that’s it.
Don’t spend any more.
Once you get in this habit, you’ll learn to just “make-do” with what you have instead of getting the urge to spend more.
It may sound very basic: don’t spend when your money runs out. But, it’s actually really easy to go over budget when you spend on a credit or debit card. There’s something about not physically seeing and touching the money as it’s being depleted that makes it so easy to spend on a card. With plastic, it’s also easier to lose track of how much you’re spending because “It’s just $2 here” or “It’s just $4 there”. All of those little $2 and $4 purchases add up quickly, but if you’re spending in cash, it’s easier to see that those $2 and $4 purchases really count!
Start by trying the new cash spending trick for a week and see how much you can save!
