Are you looking for some simple ideas to save money? We have simple solutions that you can easily apply to your lifestyle to save money!

Have you ever noticed that almost every time you find avocados on sale at the store they are rock hard?

You know they’ll eventually ripen so you don’t mind picking up a few, but wouldn’t it be nice to use them right away?

Here’s a trick to quickly ripen your avocados so you don’t have to wait so long before you can eat them.  The good thing is you can ripen as many or as little as you want at a time!

Just place your avocados in a brown paper bag [get one at the store when you buy them] with a banana, fold the bag over, and check it in a day to see how soft the avocados have gotten.

After being picked, bananas and other plants give off a gas called ethylene.  The bag traps the gas and that’s causes the avocados to ripen fast!

  1. Helen in Meridian says:

I also ripen d’anjou pears in brown paper sacks.

    • I’ve never heard of that. I’ll have to try it because those dánjou pears are always on sale when they’re green…so I always end up eating them green, but I loooove me some ripe pears. I’ll definitely try it!

  2. Also ripen avocados IN YOUR MICROWAVE…try ten seconds at a time
until they soften!! (You can make lemons juicier by putting them in
    microwave same way.)
