Easy puff pastry cheese straws recipe

How to Make Cheese Straws with Puff Pastry

A quick and easy savory appetizer or side dish that is ready in less than 20 minutes! These pastry puff cheese straws are basically light, flaky pastry breadsticks. Fresh Parmesan and salt and pepper are simple, yet perfect flavorings for this recipe!

These cheese straws are a hit with my family and I hope they will be with yours too! I love that they are easy and quick to make, plus they taste great. It easy to double the recipe if you are making them for a crowd too, especially since two sheets of puff pastry come in one box.

Ingredients for Easy Cheese Straws

All you need to make these yummy cheese straws is a sheet of puff pastry, fresh Parmesan cheese, and a little salt and pepper. You can find the puff pastry in the frozen aisle at nearly any grocery store. To thaw the dough, let it sit in the refrigerator for about 24 hours or on the counter for 30 to 60 minutes.

Rolling the Puff Pastry Cheese Straws

By the time I unfold my pastry dough sheet, I barely need to roll out the dough at all because it is already stretched to a 10-inch square. If you use a different brand, the size may vary though.

I think it is helpful to roll the dough onto a non-stick silicone mat. Just be sure when you are cutting the dough into strips that you use something that is not sharp enough to cut your mat. I use a plastic pizza cutter and press lightly. Some other options would be to use a scraper or butter knife to gently cut the dough or to not use a silicone mat in the first place. 🙂
