Explanation of Target.com coupons
Which ones are Target coupons and which are Manufacture?
I get asked that question every time Target posts a bunch of new coupons, which seems to be about twice a month. Now the absolute way to make completely sure they are Target coupons? Print them all! But I don’t know about you, but that would confuse my coupon style and waste a LOT of paper and ink!
Hopefully one day we’ll just see a Target Logo or the sweet little dog, but until then it gets a little complicated!
1. How the Coupon Appears on Target.com

Manufacture Coupons say “when you buy” on them in the picture. (Evenflow TruVent)
Target Coupons say “with purchase of” (Hunts) or they leave it blank (Sensodyne)
2. Picture info
You can view the picture properties or the picture info to find out if it’s MQ or TQ.
To do that, right-click the picture of the product in the cent
er of the coupon. Go to either Picture Properties (pictured above) or View Image Info, and click that.
TARGET COUPONS: Coupons that are Target coupons have images saved in a directory called Target. If it has the word “target” in the address, it’s a Target Store Coupon.

Manufacture Coupons: Coupons that are Manufacture Coupons have images saved in a directory called “manufact”. If it was Manufact in the address, it’s a Manufacture Coupon.

3. Previewing the Print
Some printers will allow you to force a print preview before your document actually prints. If your printer does this, you can print preview, and you’d be able to tell, because it will show you what the coupons are going to print like.
Thanks TotallyTarget!
Mavis Takes A New Coupon Clipper Shopping
Earlier in the week a (non coupon clipping) friend of mine called and asked if she could tag along on a double coupon trip to Albertsons with me. Apparently a friend of hers had seen THIS VIDEO and told her all about how people were saving big bucks at the grocery store with coupons. Never mind the fact that I’ve been friends with this woman for about 10 years now and she already knows about me and all my fruGAL ways… I guess it just took someone on the “outside” to finally reel her in
So I said YES… and we met up at the store with my coupon binder and as we strolled down the aisles I pointed out the bargains.
This is what her cart looked like after she had made all of her selections… Even though she picked up a lot of “freebie” deals… I also made sure to point out other items I felt were good deals as well. Mission Tortillas were only $1 each, 2 Dole salads and a pineapple for $5, Hershey’s syrup for $1 a bottle, Wisk laundry detergent $1.99 and dried alphabet pasta for only .19 cents a bag. When I told her she could pick up Danimals yogurt for only $1 a 4pk. with coupons… she was like “Ohhh my kids LOVE that… but I never buy it because it’s always like $3…” So… basically… It’s important to save where you can… each week will be different and in my opinion that’s part of the fun of clipping coupons
Our wonderful Albertsons cashier helped her sign up for a Preferred card…
And after she paid… a super cute (male) cashier handed her some Sizzlin’ Summer game pieces (I put “male” cashier because my friend didn’t want you to think she had “Man Hands“)
After she brought her loot home… she sent me a picture. This newbie couponer spent a total of $32.41 and was thrilled to bits with all her savings.
With the exception of one other shopper… we were the only customers in the store at the time… So our super awesome cashier rang up her 10 separate transactions one right after the other. I don’t think I could of planned an easier first time shopping trip if I had tried. Now all she needs to do is buy the video so she can do this all on her own next time
How about YOU? Have any of your friends asked you to teach them how to shop with coupons?
(If you’d like to purchase the video don’t forget to use the code THANKSMAVIS. It will save you 55% off the regular price).
TLC’s Extreme Couponing: Week Four and the Scrutiny Begins
Extreme Couponing is back tonight for episode #4.
Last week we saw a generous Nathan fill his cart(s) for the troops and birthday twins Tai & Tarin rack up the birthday freebies. This week will feature Missy and Amy putting their couponing skills to the test.
We’re four weeks into it and I’m starting to feel the trickle down effect. I know I’m not alone. Last night I had a conversation with a fellow couponer. She said she has never felt more eyes on her as she roams the aisles with her binder. She is getting glared at right and left. People are whispering about her and the items in her cart. Disapproving glances prove the scrutiny is setting in.
With couponing, and not the most realistic couponing I might add, in the national spotlight many people are taking notice. Some are jealous of our savings and eager to learn the ropes so they too can unrealistically save $1,000 a shopping trip. Some have harsh words and accuse us of being cheap or ripping off the manufacturer/store. I understand both viewpoints based on what they are seeing week after week on TLC’s Extreme Couponing.
But let’s keep it real over here. Couponing the ethical and FAB way is empowering.
There is so much in my life I have no control over. I have to sit helplessly by as our government makes choices out of my control, regardless of whether I support them or not. I can’t dictate when my insurance company raises premiums or when the power company raises rates. I have to bite my tongue to keep expletives from flying as I fill my tank with gas (okay so I don’t cuss, but after I filled up yesterday I had a few choice words I wanted to say, then sit in a corner & rock myself. It hurt!). I can’t even control the weather. But what I can control and what you can control too is what you are paying at the grocery store.
I am in charge of that. I’m not a slave to shelf prices. And you don’t have to be either. You might never see a shopping trip like you do on TLC’s Extreme Couponing (the time, stress and planning that went into those trips would blow your mind. Reality TV is so not reality!) but we can guarantee you will save money if you choose to coupon. And if you choose to coupon you are choosing to empower yourself. You are in control. And that’s why we do what we do.
So have you seen/felt any backlash because of TLC’s Extreme Couponing? Do you feel empowered enough by couponing that you can take the heat?
Still haven’t watched Expreme Couponing and not sure what all the fuss is about? You can watch it on Amazon Demand! Catch up and watch Rebecca & Jessica‘s episode, J’amie & Tiffany
‘s episode or Nathan & Tai and Tarin‘s episode for $1.99!

New Walgreens Coupon Policy
Oh happy day!!
Walgreens FINALLY added a detailed coupon policy to their website. HOORAY!!
Shopping at Walgreens just got a little easier! No more fighting with cashiers and managers! Just print THIS out and have it on hand.
A few of my favorite things it clarifies:
They WILL adjust the value of a coupon down so you can get an item free and you CAN use 2 coupons when purchasing two items in a Buy 1 Get 1 FREE sale as long as the value of the items does not fall below zero!
Can you say YIPPEE!!!
I’ll be back with Walgreens match-ups later today, but I was too excited about this to wait to tell you guys!!
Thanks FruGAL Becky for the heads-up!
Coupon Tip Tuesday: Printing Coupons
Did you know you can print coupons off the internet? YOU CAN! And aside from the paper and ink, it’s FREE!
Our favorite place to find coupons to print is coupons.com. They have 15-20 pages of coupons, up to 200 coupons available for printing.
A few things to note:
- First time printing?? You will have to download a coupon printer. This is a completely safe download, so don’t be alarmed. You will just need to follow the simple instructions. After you download and install the “coupon printer”, if it still says you need to “install the coupon printer”, then try closing your browser and opening it again. In some cases, you may need to restart your computer. If you’re still having issues, try using a different browser (ie: Internet Explorer, Fire Fox, or Google Chrome).
Coupons.com (and in most other cases any printable coupon site) will allow you to print each coupon twice. On coupons.com, once you have printed a coupon twice it will appear on the last page of the website and have a “PRINT LIMIT REACHED” notice on the coupon.
- Sometimes we will let you know that a coupon has been “reset“. This means that the limit has been removed and you will be able to print the coupon two more times.
- New coupons will arrive at the beginning of each month. We will remind you when they do on our website.
- Expiration dates: Most of them expire 1 month after you print… although some do expire sooner!
- At the end of the month: You will want to be sure to print any coupons you may still want because in a few days they will either be gone or you will be able to print them two more times. Giving you 4 coupons instead of two.
- Saving paper: Print your coupons on the back of scratch paper. Remember that you can print 3 coupon per page. So I usually print in groups of three in order to use the whole sheet of paper.
FABULESSY FRUGAL FRIDAY: Take a Break
If you’ve followed us for awhile, or even if this is your first visit to our site, you know we are all about finding ways to help you live a more frugal life. One of the most overlooked aspects of implementing frugality in your everyday life is learning balance.
So often I hear people say, “I get so overwhelmed when I think about couponing.” Or, “there are so many deals I just can’t keep up.” Or even, “I got so burned out that I quit couponing altogether.”
I speak for all of us fabs when I say WE HEAR YOU!! We have all been in your shoes and felt like muttering each of those statements at one point in our couponing journey. It’s normal. The most important thing to remember is that while couponing is a lifestyle, you can take breaks. And if you are feeling overwhelmed, take a step back.
Keep printing coupons and getting the newspaper, but maybe only shop at one store that week. Or cut the deals you are after in half. Or maybe even skip every sale for an entire week. Just live on your stockpile and shop just for essentials.
That’s what I did for 2 weeks in a row. I was feeling stressed, frazzled and overwhelmed. The thought of dragging my kids, who were acting as if they felt the same way, to the store for hours made me want to cringe. So I didn’t plan a single shopping trip. I didn’t clip a single coupon. I didn’t even walk into a grocery store. I bought produce at HCP and used meat from my freezer.
It. Was. Awesome.
Because of how we teach you to shop, you should have a sufficient stockpile to allow a little break like that. You never actually stop being a couponer if you pause your shopping trips. In fact, you exemplify coupon living when you can take a break from shopping and still have ample supplies to feed your family! Plus, as a bonus, you might just come back from your couponing hiatus refreshed and ready to hit the stores running.
This post might not be for you. You might just be getting started implementing couponing into your life. If so, don’t panic thinking you will burn out. It took me over a year before I took my first real break from couponing. Just know that if couponing starts stressing you out, TAKE A BREAK! You can always pick up those scissors and start clipping again!
Coupon Tip Tuesday: Printable Coupon Anatomy 101
Do you know the anatomy of your coupons?
This week we are going to look at the anatomy of a coupons.com or brandcaster coupon.
Product Image: A picture of the product the coupons can be used on.
Manufacturer coupon: Can be used at most stores and is not specific to one chain store. Sometimes you will see the “Target Web Coupon” in this space and you know that it is a Target coupon and not a manufactures coupon.
Watermark: Will appear behind the value of the coupon
Expiration Date: Do not try to use the coupon after the expiration date. The dots behind the expiration date are a security feature and should always show up, even on a black and white coupon.
Unique Serial number: Each coupon printed has it’s own unique number in this area to detect fraudulent copies.
Barcode: Is scanned at check out to tell the computer the value of your coupon
