  1. Prices on meat have gone up so badly, I can’t afford meat for my family. Does anyone know where you can still get a good price on ground beef? I tried last night to add my own filler — I added “nature’s burger’ and some TVP. It came out more like a meat loaf, so that didn’t work. At this point I’m definitely up for some advice, any advice…?

    • I have found really good deals by looking at Albertsons for the discounted meats! Look for Special Mark Downs or Manager Coupons on meat items. My store marks down and adds coupons on Wednesday morning and I can almost always find quality meat items at very reasonable prices. I suggest asking your meat manager when they mark down their meat and choosing those days to shop. I hope that helps you!

      • YES! Check the Butcher area of Albertsons each morning (or as often as you can) for beef ground the day before. As Heather said above, great prices. I picked up 6.5# of85% ground beef this morning for $11. I’ve even lucked out and gotten a B1G1 deal before! (their sales events are compounded by their $3 off pkg mark downs!) I love Albertsons meat selections, always fresh!
Safeway has the same mark down area.
Meat Deals are my favorite deals!

    • Maybe think out side the box and do meals that have protein from other stuff like beans, canned tuna and eggs. Sometimes we just do french toast with scrambled eggs for dinner. Other things I’ve found is to get whole chickens like at Safeway this week for .79 cents a pound and cook them in the crock-pot then shred or dice for other meals (plus make soup from leftover bones and juices). This meat is then added to mac and cheese, steamed rice and veggies, or sandwiches. I also do this with pork and roast. If your close to Fred Meyers (or any store), it pays to walk threw the freezer section of meat (like bags of frozen fish and chicken) They often mark these down but people don’t normally check these. Two weeks ago I found swai for 4.99 for a 2.5 pound bag.

    • Helen in Meridian says:

I buy mark down beef too. Today at WINCO they have Cook’s shank ham at .49 a lb and Cook’s butt ham at .69 a lb. Limit 2 each. That makes the shank hams $3.50 and up slightly or the Cook’s butt end hams at .69 # are $4.50-$5.22. Sp cheap and lots of good bones and trimmings for split pea soupk, or grat northern bean soup, or BBQ beans and ham. Stock your fridge and freeze this week with ham. Also cheap eggs.
