Update
I want to start with an apology. I’ve been shopping at the same Albertsons for so long that I didn’t realize they were not following the Coupon Policy. Therefor, I didn’t realize I wasn’t following it, and that is WRONG. It’s my responsibly to understand and follow the policy, not the cashiers. I was wrong, I did a couple of transactions wrong. This is what the transactions should have looked like:
Transaction 1, 3, 4
Buy 2 Kraft 8 oz Salad Dressing $1.99 each (BOGO)
Buy Nabisco Oreo Cookies $1
Buy Shopper’s Value Milk $2.39
Buy 5 Oscar Mayer Lunchmeat $1 each
Double $1/2 Kraft Dressings or Sizzling Salads Dinner Kit (SS 05/20/12)
Use $1/2 off Oreo’s wyb Oreo’s and Milk coupon (NLA) (*You could double this if you were buying a package of Oreo’s $2 or more)
Double $0.75/1 Milk Coupon any brand
Pay $5.89 OOP
Receive $4 Catalina
Transaction 5
Buy 2 Kraft 8 oz Salad Dressing $1.99 each (BOGO)
Buy Nabisco Oreo Cookies $1
Buy Shopper’s Value Milk $2.39
Buy 2 Bananas $.21 each
Double $1/2 Kraft Dressings or Sizzling Salads Dinner Kit (SS 05/20/12)
Use $1/2 off Oreo’s wyb Oreo’s and Milk coupon (NLA) (*You could double this if you were buying a package of Oreo’s $2 or more)

Pay $.89 OOP
Transaction 7 and 8

Use $.55/1 Cooking Creme (SS 06/03)
Use $1/1 Store coupon (attached to Cooking Creme)
Pay $1.44 OOP
I’ve got an email into my store manager to see what he would like me to do. I would like to pay them the difference in what I did, and what I should have done. It was a difference of $6.94.
I’m sorry to any of you I offended. THANK you for bringing it to my attention! I am an honest person, and strive to coupon honestly, and with INTEGRITY! I will be more careful to watch what the cashiers are doing from now on, because I don’t want any of them to get in trouble, and more importantly, I want to coupon right.

It all began on October 8th, 2008. Cathy and Monica started this coupon blog to help friends and family learn about their new money saving hobby couponing! Since then they have taught thousands of women (and men)

I need an Albertsons in my life!
I’ll trade you one for a CVS (not all of them mind you, just one
)
I don’t have a CVS either! I lead such a rough couponing life!
haha.
So sad Edie. Which store do you have?
Well I do love the local Winco and Fred Meyer.
There were plans to build a Costco around here, but I think they were scratched. Not too bummed about that. Maybe they decided to build an Albertsons instead and I just haven’t heard anything?! Fingers crossed haha.
I’m sorry, but I am a bit confused. On the first transaction how was the OOP under $5 when the meat packs cost $5 total?
after all the coupons were doubled, I had a negative balance… the lunch meat absorbed that.
One more question, on the other post where there was 15 packs purchased and the oop was $3.99 – How was that able to come up to that price? Were there catalinas used on the first transaction that weren’t posted? I did this yesterday, but still had to pay the first $5 for the first set of meat packs to get the first $4 catalina.
Thank you!
I went back and re-read the post where catalinas were used…which brings another question. Were you able to use more than one catalina in the same transaction?
Maybe I can explain the meat deal. Yes, like you I had to pay out the $5 on my first transaction. But when I walked away from my last transaction I had a $4 catalina. So on the bottom of the meat post I tried to show my OOP (out of pocket) was $7.99 but, really walking away with $4 in catalinas it was like spending $3.99. Hope that helps! I am glad you go in on the meat deal! I love the hidden ones they make me so excited when I find them & can share!
Why do you continue to make that seem acceptable!?!? That is clearly against Albertsons Coupon Policy…
Youre teaching people to use coupons fraudulently, unethically, and what youre doing is just plain Wrong.
Wait…what?
I have to say that I agree with Jess below. It is coupon policy that you cannot achieve overage or a negative balance using TTV coupons. Even if your manager allows this, as a Leader here I don’t see that it is the right thing to show as it is against their policy. Don’t get me wrong, I love this site and all the work you ladies do, but this is not right at all! I wanted to back up my opinion with a clarification from Albertsons directly. And their answer is below.
“Albertsons That’s a great question, Kendra. Overage is only allowed with manufacturer coupons. Since TTVs are store coupons, these will not provide overage, and the coupon will be adjusted down. This policy is valid in our stores in WA, ID, OR, MT, UT, WY, ND, CA, and NV. I hope that helps, and if you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Have a great day! ~Steve”
You’re right Kendra, we even met with Albertsons corporate when they were re-writing their policy last fall. A TTV coupon can NOT create overage. It is supposed to be adjusted down so the product is free. Becky is updating the post right now and will clarify things. Thank you for sharing your thoughts in a kind manner.
Thank you! I hope I didn’t come off as rude as that in no way was my intention. I just felt as though it was something that thousands of your followers would see and potentially try to do at their stores. It could cause upset with Albertsons. I tried to explain it nicely without attacking and blaming like some other comments have done. I just felt like some other comments weren’t very nice and I could maybe explain a bit better. I also wanted to make sure I had my thinking right and asked them directly before commenting here. Again, thank you for all you ladies do! Without you, I wouldn’t have gotten the lunch meat deal!
I was told by the McMillan Albies that the milk coupons were fraudulent (mine were printed just today from coupons.com) that corporate offices sent out an email telling the stores not to use them…anyone else run into that problem? I could maybe understand them targeting me if I had lots of black ink ones, but I only had 2 and they were printed in color…
I used two today at Boise’s Cole and Fairview store with no problem, and they were just black and white. Weird.
Mine kept dinging as “possibly fraudulent” but since my cashier knows me she just hit over-ride. Besides as stated it’s says when you printed them.
Mine keep dinging too saying possible fraudulent but my Albie’s knows me and so they just over ride it. So not sure what is going on with these coupons.
I used mine yesterday and my first one rang up fine and then my second and third ones rang up as fraudulant. The checker asked me if they were the same coupon and I said yes, it let me print more then two though and it usually doesn’t so she just did the over-ride.
I don’t understand the problem with black and white coupons. I don’t print mine in color. I am not going to waste my color ink on coupons. I get tired of being accused of coping my coupons at stores because I print them in black and white.
There is no problem with black and white. You just run the risk of them looking like copies. But if you show your cashier the unique bar code they each have and the time and date on the border they will know that they are not copies. Hope that helps.
This post ROCKED!!!!!! Thank you SOOOOO much for giving me some ideas and examples of things I actually need to buy
And I had NO IDEA there was a Tribe coupon! YAY!!!
Ahh thanks!
The Carlita tortillas are $2.29 bogo. Carlita is a store brand, so you can use the $1 any Essential Everyday coupon in the Sizzlin Summer booklet on them. So, $1.29 for two 8-ct packages, which I thought was a very good price.
Thanks for the link to the Hummus coupons.
On the milk coupons, I’ve never had any trouble using them. Used one just today at my Boise-area Albertsons with no issues.
I print b&w all the time and I’ve never had any trouble with the fact that they are not color. I have a laser printer and an ink jet — it’s a lot less expensive to print with the laser printer than the ink jet because toner cartridges last a LONG time. And I hardly ever have trouble with them scanning, unlike the ink-jet printed ones.
Just as an FYI, I just printed the Nabisco Facebook Coupon tonight…. it is still there. Thinking that someone else might want the info.
Thanks!
Did she buy two Tribe hummus and double two $1.00 coupons? Or did she just double 1 coupon.
Can you use two coupons on a BOGO?
Thanks
yes, you can double 2 coupons on a BOGO
Not according to the coupon policy which says that a ttv coupon cannot result in overage. So you can ethically use 2 coupons, but may only double one per the policy. Just because a cashier does it doesn’t make it ok if it violates the company’s policy if you ask me.
You can use two coupons and two doubles. The cashier is supposed to inter a double amount up to the value of the item. That is what they have been trained to do. However, they often don’t care and will give you the full value of the double as long as there are item to cover that overage and not give you a negative balance. I usually tell the cashier as we go but the decision is theirs.
Connie, sorry but that is just wrong.
The Albertsons policy states that a store coupon cannot be used to get overage on an item, only a MFR coupon can. A TTV is a store coupon. Therefore using one of a free item is a violation of the policy, since any amount you save using a TTV on a free item is overage.
On a BOGO free sale you can use 2 MFR coupons, but only one TTV coupon:
Buy (2) Widgets for $1.50 each on sale BOGO
Total: $1.50
Use (2) $.50/1 MFR coupons
Use (1) TTV coupon
Final Price: 2 free items, NOT a $.50MM,
Another example:
Buy (2) Widgets for $1 each on sale BOGO
Total: $1.00
Use (2) $.75/1 MFR coupons
Use (1) TTV coupon
Final Price: $.75MM, no more
In this case the item you are paying for costs $1. Your MFR coupon takes of $.75 so the TTV must be adjusted down to $.25 since TTVs cannot give you overage. The $1 item hence becomes free. The free item from the BOGO sale has a $.75 MFR coupon applied, but again that cannot be doubled as TTV coupons cannot result in overage.
Just because a cashier “lets” you do something does not make it ethically or legally correct. Yes, Albertsons should fully train all their cashiers and everyone should do the same thing. But that doesn’t always happen. As couponers we are responsible for our own ethical behavior, not for seeing what the cashiers will let us do. If you had a full cart of groceries and your cashier gave you a wink and a nod and told you to just walk on out of the store with the whole thing and not worry about paying for it would you do so? Of course not! You know the law, know that would be stealing and hopefully you would choose not to do so even if no one would ever find out – that is ethics. Couponing is no different. Corporate sets the policy and we are responsible for following it, no matter who is willing to “let” us do anything different.
Mamalala- You can use 2 coupons on a bogo. You can double the first one, but doubling the second one varies by the store. I have not found where this is specifically addressed in the Albertsons coupon policy. http://fabulesslyfrugal.com/2011/12/the-official-new-albertsons-coupon-policy.html
Jenn- Have you seen this in the policy? Maybe it has been updated recently and we are not aware? I was looking for it on the albertsons site and can not find it. You are right. It is everyone’s responsibility to follow policy and keep couponing good for all of us. Good coupon ethics are so very important to all of us here at FF.
http://ems02013.egain.net/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1000&PARTITION_ID=1&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=2140 right here. Albertsons says if you use a manufacturers coupon and a store coupon (ie: ttv) and the price of the product is less than the combined coupons , the store coupon will be adjusted down to make the item free. No overages.
Thank you Jess. I had to log in from another page before I could get the link to work, but I got it.
My apologies for not being clear on this post. I totally agree with you and make every effort to coupon EXACTLY according to store policy. My point was that no matter how we plan, or remind, it is up to the checker to ring up the coupons correctly. Again, I apologize for any offense my comments made.
Just curious how you can use 2 manf q’s on milk, the oreo one states when you buy both milk and cookies so how are you using the .75 one on it as well?
My Albies has always done this… they would let me combine it with the Belvita ones too, if I had wanted those products. They said (back when we first started getting these) that since they were by 2 different manufactures and you were buying 2 different products, it was just fine. The register never beeps.
The one from the Oreo facebook site says that the coupon is for $1.00 off the OREOS when you buy oreos and milk. If it stated $1.00 off Oreos AND milk, then you wouldn’t be able to use the milk coupon as well.
The explanation listed says “$1/2 oreos and milk” … If the $1 off is just for the cookies, then wouldn’t you have to buy TWO packages of cookies? (listed she bought One package of cookies and One gallon of milk) And if it means the pair (cookies and milk) then you couldn’t double it, cause you can’t go over the price of the product when using ttv’s…
Nor could you use a separate coupon for the milk. And since the”company that manufactures the coupon” is different, Does Not make it ok to use 2 coupons on the same product.
If she ONLY bought cookies and milk it would have looked like this: 1 Oreo Cookies $1 + 1 Shoppers Value Milk $2.39 (subtotal $3.39) – $1/2 Oreos and Milk – 75¢ off milk – $1 ttv – 75¢ ttv = Total = -11¢ ………. This is confirmed what she did via transaction #1 where the oop should be $4.88, get $4 cat… Theres that 11¢ negative balance on the fraudulent coupon usage…
sad
Transaction #5 shows even better, the fraudulent use. She has to buy 21¢ in bananas to use up that 11¢ overage she gets from using either … A) 2 coupons for the same product (the milk, which means the cookies and milk coupon accounts for both and using a ttv on That coupon is acceptable, But means you can’t use another coupon for the milk, certainly not another coupon And another ttv) …or… B) Wrongful use of ttv’s (can’t double the “cookies and milk” coupon since the cookies only cost $1 and ttv’s cannot go over the price of the product, this being another explanation, that the oreo coupon is for Just the cookies. Meaning she Could use another coupon on the milk, but Cannot use a ttv on for the oreos, since they cost $1 and the coupon value is $1)
Note the 10¢ oop price (theres that pesky 11¢ overage again, taken off the 21¢ in bananas …….. Now had the coupon been a basket catalina coupon instead of an Oreo coupon, she’d be in the clear.
I’m sorry you feel the coupon use was fraudulent. I have talked to my store manager, showing him the coupons several times. He says it’s not fraud, that both coupons can be used.
Cashiers and Even Store Managers can “accept” coupons or “deem them acceptable” when they are clearly Not… Just cause you have manager approval doesn’t make it right, it makes him guilty as well.
Being a position of leadership (leading Fabulessly Frugal followers) you wouldn’t want to make “getting away with ______” look acceptable. You’d need to lead the Right path to couponing Honestly and Correctly.
Jess, take a deep breath and relax. Look at all your posts! It is ok if you need a break from couponing. It’s not worth getting this worked up about. Breathe….
Lol! I’m fine. But its not ok to promote wrongful use of coups. She should be ashamed! It reflects bad on All of us couponers. I’m sad, not mad.
You is kind. You is smart. You is important. And you are right as you previously stated. It would behoove people to read the coupon.
Ha ha – this made me giggle Meghan.
I don’t beleive Becky was trying to be fraudulent at all. I know Becky and she is a wonderful person! I think that she was just sharing her shopping trip and her store has always allowed her to do these things and she didn’t think much of it. I agree that just because one store or one cashier allows it, it’s not OK to do it. She is working on clarifying everything right now.
I agree. You should never use two manufacturer coupons on one product. I’m not sure what the “Belvita” stuff is though and how that relates to the milk and oreo coupons.
Hi Jess, you’re right… I didn’t read that carefully the first time (it was late). I thought she was using the $1.00 off one package of Oreo’s when you buy oreos and milk. I thought she had purchase the package of Oreos too (the ones that are probably closer to $3). When I do this deal, I’ll be using the facebook coupons, buying the package of Oreos and also buying a gallon of milk and using 1 gal of milk coupon. And I’ll be doubling both.
I wasnt planning on shopping with doubles this round as there isnt really anything I need, but i will go out now for Pectin. I got strawberries from Zaycon and plan on making jam!!! Yummmmmm….
There may even be peelies for free sugar up to $2 around the pectin there was at my Albertsons so, keep your eyes peeled!
Which albies are you at Ang? I’m needing sugar, and would be down with more pectin
Ontario Oregon
I too think the use of the cookies and milk coupon and the cookies coupon is wrong. Yes, the clerk might allow it but I thinnk it is wrong to do it. I also tell my clerks what the double amount would be if I am going to be over with a double. Its all about ethical couponing, not just the best deal.
I appreciate your ethical couponing standards! I LOVE couponing and dont want to see the rules get tougher and tougher cause people try to sqeeze around the rules. We need more honesty and ethics (and courage and accountibility) in our world. More like you.
I think it is amazing that you could have saved 80%, I would love to be able to do that. Just dont think I have the time to separate all of my items into 9-10 different transactions. Guess I am just too impatient.
I dont think using 2 coupons for the milk and cookies is wrong, using 1 for the milk and 1 for the cookies and using doublers is in accordance with the coupon policy as far as I can tell but then I dont run a web site, blog every week about my shopping trips or write policy so till I do, I think I wont be trying to know more than the ppl that do. just sayin…
I tried the milk and cookie deal and got denied, no overages where I shop. I always get the sharp cashiers who know when something is free and stop it there and don’t allow overage like Becky got (as per policy no overage on doublers they say.)
Went and did my doubles shopping this morning – 9 gallons of milk, 6 bottles of Cranberry Naturals juice, and 20 botles of Sweet Baby Rays bbq sauce (and yes I will use all 20 bottles in a short period of time- I have boys who eat, drink, and breathe bbq)!!! After coupons, doubles, rainchecks, and catalinas my total oop was $18.35!!!
Nice job Cheryl! We eat drink and bath in Sweet Baby Rays too!
I got mine the last time we had doubles.
How much was the sweet baby rays? I’m planning on getting a few tomorrow but am not sure of the price. Or had you used a raincheck on them?
She clealy stated that the coupon says its for $1 OFF OREOS WHEN YOU BUY MILK!!!! When you buy both the discount goes to the cookies, like the coupon says. That’s why you can use the milk coupon and two doublers.
“The one from the Oreo facebook site says that the coupon is for $1.00 off the OREOS when you buy oreos and milk. If it stated $1.00 off Oreos AND milk, then you wouldn’t be able to use the milk coupon as well.”
It’s clearly nitpicking her word choices. Jeeesh!
Right. If thats the claim, then you Cannot use a ttv coupon with it, since the coupon value Already equals the price of the cookies! $1 off oreos, $1 oreos. Cannot use ttv.
The Oscar Meyer catalina did not work at my Albertons in Auburn WA the checkers had not even heard of it?
It worked in Vancouver, WA this morning.
And I thought I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning!
Good thing I bought some Oreo’s and Milk today at Winco.
GUESS WHAT, I DIDN’T USE A SINGLE COUPON AND BOY DO THESE FULL PRICE COOKIES TASTE GOOD! If only I had known the drama I could have caused by using a legit coupon.
So looking for the like button
Thanks Suzy!
Hey everyone, I updated the post. I’m REALLY sorry about the confusion I caused. (And that I was silent on it for so long… it wasn’t intentional, my family is having some medical problems and I was getting an update). I was trusting my cashier to follow the coupon policy instead of making sure they followed it myself. Please make sure to read the update, and see how the transactions SHOULD have been done. Again, I’m really sorry. Not following the policy isn’t acceptable, even if the cashiers allow it.
Becky, I would personally like to apologize to you for all of the hostility against you. Everyone needs to remember that mistakes happen, and no one is perfect. I love this site and am so incredibly thankful for all of the hard work you ladies put into it! And it’s my personal opinion that if people do not agree with what this site posts and/or professes, then perhaps they should find a different site to use.
I completely agree! If it weren’t for this website giving me the coupon match ups, I probably wouldn’t be couponing because I simply don’t have the time! I have been following this site for about a year and have always been grateful for the amount of research you do in lining up the deals. It’s no small feat and being a full time working mother of two, I appreciate everything you do for your readers. You put together these listings for us and it helps me so much in coming up with my own strategy for doubler weekend. Thanks again and keep up the good work. Don’t let negativity bring you down, think about all the positive vibes that people are sending you!
Thanks Becky for all your match ups! You saved me a ton of money.
It’s okay girl we all make mistakes. There is always a new day tomorrow. Thanks fab girls we love you!!!!!!!!!
Exactly…people are just being so harsh and I want to thank you for having the “huevos” to post your shopping trips and give us all ideas on what to buy, just to be blasted for making a mistake. Like the other poster said, NOBODY is perfect, even people who are in leadership. Thanks again, and shake off all the negativity. I mean holy cow, its flippin cookies.
I have been thinking about this much of the afternoon and wanted to post a comment in support of you too, Becky. I have been using FF for just over a year now and anyone who has been on here that long or longer would know that you all are diligent in endorsing ethical couponing. I have seen posts pointing out changes in policies, pointing out fraudulent coupons, and reminding us to be kind and thoughtful toward others. I am not at all surprised at the class and dignity your responded to these comments with. I knew if you were mistaken, you would inform us all and make it right some how (another thing I love about this website). It was maddening to me that the assumption was that you were trying to get away with something, trying to take advantage, and trying to save money instead of save your integrity. I only wish the same conversation could have been done in a constructive way…pointing out how the transactions weren’t in alignment with what she knew the policy to be and giving her sources of information. I read and reread the main coupon policy and there was nothing in it to speak to what she was talking about, so I don’t know how any of us would have known that without being shown the additional clarifying post. The same results would have been achieved in a much more positive way – you would have apologized, made it right, and you wouldn’t have had to feel bad about it. Like you, I’m glad that Jennifer pointed out the discrepancy, but I hope it didn’t leave you feeling deflated, because there are so many of us who really appreciate the hard work you do! All of these posts today have made me mad and sad for you, Becky. We love the work you do and the integrity you do it with. Thank you!
I could not resist, what first came to my mind was less caffiene? Thank you Becky and I pray and hope your family are all doing well.
Take Care!
Thanks for everything you do on the site Becky!
Thanks for updating the post Becky. We know that you try like all of the fabs to promote good coupon ethics. I am proud of how you have handled things when you realized you made some mistakes. Hopefully this has been a good learning experience for lot of people. We truly appreciate our followers that recognize that FF has always promoted good coupon ethics and anything contrary would be a mistake we would like to render a solution to quickly!
What a super web site! to significantly info and a quite short lifestyle hehehehe maintain it up, very good perform
