Amazon Prime Benefits

I LOVE the free shipping benefits. Especially when I’m Christmas shopping! I’m able to shop from home and skip the crazy crowds on nearly ALL of our Christmas gifts. It saves me gas, money, and time!

By combining Amazon Prime Free Shipping and the FAB Amazon Deals we post about I got some killer deals!

8 Awesome Amazon Prime Benefits

1. FREE 2-Day shipping on Eligible Items

As an Amazon Prime member, you’ll receive free 2-day shipping on items purchased from or fulfilled by Amazon.com! That means anything that say “eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25” will ship for FREE, with no minimum purchase and no limit on how many orders!!

I don’t remember the last time I paid to ship something. It’s fantastic! Shipping a single order via 2-day shipping without Prime will have costs STARTING at around $10 a package, and that’s if you get a deal!

2. Cheap 1-Day Shipping

Are you in a hurry to get something? Amazon Prime members can upgrade to one-day shipping for their Prime eligible orders for only $3.99! My husband loves this perk for the time-sensitive, work-related purchases that come up every once in a while.

3. Early Access to Lightning Deals

Lightning deals are special deals that come up on Amazon every once in a while. These deals are time-sensitive and there is usually a limited quantity available, so it’s important to act fast.

As a Prime Member, you’ll have a big advantage because you’ll get 30-minutes of early access to select lightning deals. This could allow you to snag up some great deals really easily!

4. Free Books

Amazon Prime members have access to thousands of books for free. This includes magazines, comics, Kindle Singles, and more. You can read it on your Kindle, or from any of your devices with a Kindle App on them!

Download one of the free Kindle apps to start reading Kindle books on all your devices. The Kindle app is available for every major smartphone, tablet, and computer. That means with the free Kindle Reading apps, you can buy a Kindle book once, and read it on any device with the Kindle app installed. And of course, you can also read that same Kindle book on a Kindle, Kindle Touch, or Kindle Fire if you own one. (I LOVE my Kindle Fire…)

5. Benefits for the Whole Family

You can share your Amazon Prime Shipping Benefits with 4 family members (who do not need to live in your same house). $199 split 5 ways is only $23.80 a person (plus YOU get all the other benefits).

6. Unlimited Cloud Storage

Amazon Prime Members have Amazon Cloud Drive which provides unlimited secure online storage, automatic photo backup, and lets you access your photos anywhere: on your phone, computer, tablet, or any Fire device.

7. Free Music

Prime Music gives Amazon Prime Members access to over a million songs that they can listen to free online or offline! And now there are Prime Stations that you can personalize to your own taste with unlimited skips and no ads and no extra cost!

8. Stream Hundreds of Movies & TV Shows

Prime Instant Video includes free streaming of movies and popular TV shows. Available for instant streaming on Kindle Fire HD, as well as Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Wii U, iPad, Roku, and on hundreds of TVs, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, and on the Web.

I personally think Amazon Instant Video has a better selection than Netflix, but you can check out this list for yourself, before making any commitments. The ones here are Eligible For FREE instant Streaming with your Prime Membership. You can also download and stream movies and shows offline.

Breaking it Down: The $119 cost for Amazon Prime

  • In order to get FREE Super Saver Shipping, you have to spend $25. With Prime, there is no Minimum Purchase!
  • $119 averages to $9.92 per month. You could also choose a $12.99/month plan, and get access to all the same benefits.
  • You can get a FREE 30-day trial membership for Amazon Prime, which means the $119 is actually for 13 months, which is $9.15 per month.

Comments

  • I am confused about this though because when you visit the website it looks like you have to purchase shows, etc. For example, New Girl says to buy for $1.99. Does this go away and become free once you have amazon prime?

  • I have prime, and I love it, but I did not know I could share my free shipping. Thanks for the info!

  • Can you stream different movies and/or shows to different tvs using a Roku/Wii/Blue Ray player?

Also the new movies (like We Bought a Zoo) free to stream with Prime?

    Thank you.

    • The new movies like We Bought a Zoo are available for rental for a fee… I added the direct link to the free ones in the post. Sorry about the confusion!

You can watch anywhere–in your living room, online, or on the go. Instant Videos are available for instant streaming on the Kindle Fire, as well as PlayStation 3, PC, Mac, Roku, and hundreds of TVs and Blu-ray players.

    • According to Amazon, you can stream up to two DIFFERENT movies/tv shows at once using different devices.

“You may stream up to two videos at the same time using the same Amazon.com account. You may stream the same video to no more than one device at a time. ”

I’ve been really impressed with Amazon’s growing library of Prime-eligible content. I ditched cable a few years ago and do not miss it one bit.

      • Yep!!! i frequently watch on my computer while my hubby or 3 year old is watching something else! (There’s only so much Blue’s Clues I can stand to watch… even with limiting her TV time to 30 minutes per day!)

  • Can I stream from our Wii?

  • I love my Amazon Prime but would like more info about the free shipping sharing. I didn’t know we could do this and I would love to know how.

Thanks for sharing all your great info.

  • It looks like the Amazon prime can only be shared with four family members living in the same household, or four co-workers shopping from the same account (presumably the same address). Sorry, I just looked at the Amazon website to find out this info.

  • “You can read it on your Kindle, or from any of your devices with a Kindle App on them!”

Actually, you cannot get the free kindle books with prime membership if you own an iPad with a Kindle app. You can only get them if you use the actual Kindle device. They don’t support the iPad Kindle app, which is a bummer.

  • Even better than Amazon Mom is a student Amazon Prime account. After the first free year, it only costs $39 with all the benefits with a student .edu email– Its good for 4 years. My husband is a student parttime and I love the benefits.

  • You had me at “Downton Abbey” 🙂

  • I thought you couldn’t stream to an XBOX. When we first looked into purchasing Netflix or Prime, it wasn’t able to stream to your xbox – we could only watch on our computers which doesn’t work for us. Has this changed?

  • While I love my Amazon Prime account and we frequently (okay, all the time) watch shows with it, I would never give up Netflix. Most of the shows I like are on Netflix and I don’t have to pay, unlike Amazon. A lot of shows on there you have to rent.

BTW, Downton Abbey is also on Hulu, Netflix and PBS. Amazon doesn’t have the exclusive rights to it.

We use a Roku device to stream to our TVs and it works wonderfully! All the ones I mentioned can be streamed.

  • Can you only stream through a computer? Not sure how to do it through my TV. Can you go through the Wii? Thanks

  • I am confused by your statement that Amazon Prime Sharing can be used for family members that do not have to be living in the same house. Following your link, it states that they must be in the same household. How can you share with others not in the same household, then?

  • While the cost of Prime seems to be cheaper on the surface, their library of available streaming items is tiny compared to Netflix and Hulu Plus. We dropped cable quite some time ago and have been happy with a subscription to each. Also, the $79 fee for Amazon Prime only allows you to purchase something on Amazon with free shipping. While they do run sales on occasion, when I’m looking for something specific and not just buying because the price is already low, I rarely ever find the lowest price on Amazon. Another option for free two day shipping is Shoprunner. They cost the same and allow you to use their shipping at multiple locations. I’ve been weighing whether, if I prepaid for expedited shipping, I would go with Amazon Prime or Shoprunner. Right now, I’m leaning towards Shoprunner. Just my two cents. 🙂

  • Amazon offers more then Netflix and is better business minded.

  • Hi,

It looks like their policies have changed. It now says that you can share your Prime benefits with up to 4 family members WHO LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSEHOLD. In your description, it says they do not need to live in the same household. Am I missing something, or have their policies recently changed? I’m bummed if they have, but I don’t want to be sharing if I’m not supposed to!

  • How do I get to the list of prime eligible videos before I sign up for prime?
    Thanks

  • I am a Amazon Prime Member and — when it comes to the difference between streaming shows on Amazon compared with Netflix — I have been less happy with the options on Amazon than with Netflix. I can’t find much on Amazon that doesn’t cost at least $1.99 (even with Prime). A lot of the shows I am wanting to watch are older shows, but they still cost at least a $1.99 (per episode).

    • I’m sorry! You should email amazon customer service and tell them what shows you want them to add!! That’s one of the awesome things, is they are always adding content! AND, even if you have Netflix, Hulu and Prime, it’s still cheaper than cable! 😀
