Have you signed up for the new Albertsons Preferred Rewards Card? It’s so FAB even my little neighbor boy was totally excited about it!
Just before I started checking out on Sunday, my favorite Albertsons cashier Lucy suggested I sign up for the New Preferred Savings card (basically I just transferred my information from my old card to the new card). It was a piece of cake. Just for signing up I earned (4) 1,000 bonus point coupons. I can redeem 1 coupon per specified week for a total of an extra 4,000 points.
But you want to know the best part? You earn 10 points for every $1 spent (before coupons!). Oh yeah. That’s what I’m talking about!
Lucy also told me you can earn 500 Bonus Points for providing a valid email address and 500 points for every prescription you have filled at Albertsons too.

When you earn 5,000 points a $5 Rewards Certificate prints instantly on your receipt. Do you know what this means? FREE GROCERIES. It sure didn’t take me too long to earn a $5.00 off coupon.
Woo Hoo! I love the new Preferred Rewards card!
Here’s what I purchased:
2 free boxes of Super Pretzels (I doubled a $1.00/1 internet coupon NLA), 3 packages of Oscar Mayer Bologna 3x $.97 = $2.91, 6 boxes of Old ElPaso Taco Shells (I doubled a $1/2 tear pad coupon) $1.50, 6 free packages of UP2U gum (I used (3) RP 8/23 $1/2 coupons), 2 gallons of milk 2x $2.99= $5.98 + 2 packages of Oreos 2x $.99 = $1.98 (I doubled (2) Save $1.00 on Nabisco products WYB milk coupons), 14 boxes of Tic Tacs 14x $.19 =$2.66 (I doubled (7) $1/2 10/2 RP Tic Tac coupons), 4 free Propel (I doubled 2 of these coupons), 2 free Kikkoman Soy Sauce (I doubled (2) $1/1 coupons form the Safeway booklet), $.29 for Karo Corn Syrup (I doubled a $1/1 hang tag coupon), 2 boxes of Wheat Thins Sticks $.99 x 2 = $1.98 (I used 2 $1/1 Wheat Thins coupons) & 2 bags of Nabisco soup cracker 2x .99 = $1.98 (I used 1 $1/2 Nabisco cookie/cracker coupons from a Huddle to Fight Hunger tear pad). I also paid $1.50 for 1 bottle of OJ (I used 1 $1/1 coupon from the Pepsi insert). Although my total came to $20.78, I used up the remaining balance on my Albertsons Gift card ($7.24) so my total OOP was only $13.54.
8 bottles (2 transactions of 4 bottles each) of Dove Shampoo & Conditioner. I Paid $5.20 OOP w/tx and got back a $5 catalina (1st transaction) and used the $5 catalina on transaction #2 and paid $.20 OOP on the second transaction.
I walked away with a $5 catalina.
Go HERE to see this deal.
I bought 6 bottles of Tresemme. I used (3) $1.00/1 coupons, 3 doublers and 3 B1G1 free coupons. My total after coupons and tax came to $6.15. I used my $5 catalina from trip #2 and paid $1.15 OOP.
* I also picked up 18 bottles of Shampoo & Conditioner for my sister who is currently on her honeymoon and could not make it to the store. She pre-ordered all her Tresemme ahead of time so I collected it for her (and earned a bunch more points in the process).
I had been craving a caramel apple for about 2 weeks and finally broke down and bought a bag of caramels ($1.99) and 4 apples ($1.30). And let me tell you… it was totally worth it!
I did not have any wax paper on hand so I used a Silpat instead. Do you own one of these? If not, Amazon has the large ones on sale right now for $18.70. They’ll come in handy during baking season.
My tomato plants are on their last leg but I was still able to harvest quite a few this week.
I also collected a couple of eggs.
Did you pick up your FREE (after mail in rebate) container of Lysol wipes? Well, they were almost free. I did have to pay $.44 cents for a stamp.
Total Spent This Week $23.82
Total Spent YTD $1,082.24

Did you sign-up at home or in-store for your new card? I do not see the option online since I already have my card registered under my account. Thanks!
I signed up in-store.
Thank you!
WHERE IS THE 1.00/1 COUPON FOR TRESEMME?
I found a tear pad in the store next to the Tresseme. It says “redeemable only at Albertson’s” but it’s a manufacturer’s coupon.
I found the coupons attached to the product. Ask your health & beauty manager. They should have them available for you.
How much do you pay to take care of your chickens- and start up/ care for your garden. I know it’s not cheap. It’s not “free”
That is quite unfair to say it is not free. I do believe she added the cost of her plants into her budget(some-like her raspberries, do not need to be replanted)-last spring-also she saves seeds from plant to grow the crops the next year. As far as water usage to raise plant bills only go up small amount, and it is true she is not paying for them at harvest.
I own a small farm where I have a large garden and 12 chickens. chickens are not cheap – food, supplies, straw/ fluff / woodchips, water, having the heat lamp on during winter months. People who haven’t had chickens don’t understand that it takes years to get your money back from the investment. With gardening you can sink some money in – sure its faster to gain your money bak- but your not thinking of any tools, twine, anti-bug sprays, federalizing, ect ect.
what is unfair is to say it is free. especially the eggs.
The same could apply to coupons…if you subscribe to the newspaper, you are paying for the subscription so you did have to invest to get the coupons that will in turn get you free product. Same thing with buying coupons on Ebay…paying for the coupons that will get you free product. It is what it is, no need to split hairs.
Mavis retrieves her coupons from the recycle bin. It is what it is, no need to split hares.
What coupons did you use for the dove?
Hi Mary,
You can see how to use the Dove coupons HERE.
My Albies doesn`t know anything about the new savings card. Just get blank stares when I ask about it. Is it all albies or just certain ones trying it out?
I don’t know but I will ask and let you know.
I’m excited to hear what you find out!
You used 29 doublers?! Wow! Where do they all come from?
I noticed all the doublers too, and how do you do this in the store? My store would never let me use that many in 1 trip…how do you get around the store policies??
At my store in Wyoming, I do 3 transactions in a row, take my groceries out to the car, and go back in and do 3 more, and on and on if I have the time. They don’t seem to have a problem with it at all. I have also asked a gas station if I could have their Sunday papers to recycle, which is where I get all my inserts. I pick up the papers Monday mornings. I usually get anywhere from 10-30 papers a week. And I do recycle the papers!!
Works good for me!
AWESOME!
I’ve been dying to know more about how you got started with your chickens and eggs. How many do you have? How do you take care of them? Maybe you could do a future post about it for those of us that are interested in possibly doing it too!
Love Mondays with Mavis by the way!!!
I will try and take some pictures this week.
My alberstsons didn’t know anything about the reward card either? I just transfered my old one to a new one. Not sure if that’s what I had to do? But the cashier has worked there forever and she said she didn’t know anything about it? I want to sign up!! :}
I dug around on the Alberston’s website and got here: https://www.albertsons.com/rewardskiosk.
I was able to “upgrade” my current Preferred card to the Preferred Rewards card. My new card will come in the mail in 1-3 weeks, but I’ll start earning points now.
I got so excited when I saw your link but when I tried it I got this message:
Thanks a bunch for the link. I’m near Vancouver, WA and the link worked for me…maybe their site is buggy?
Mavis – how can you use so many Albs doublers in one transaction (trip #1) My Albs says you can only use 3 doublers per transaction
Albertson’s in Twin Falls does not allow using B1G1 coupons with other manufacturer’s coupons – register beeps every time alerting a cashier that there is a problem. So, no cheap Dove or Tresemme shampoos for us
Here what I found on The Coupon Project website:

Hello Mavis,
I’m new to couponing. I started in the first week of November 2011. Where do you live? I live in California. I’m asking because I want to know how you doubled so many coupons at Albertsons. In Cali, you can only double two coupons that come in the Sunday paper. So a fews ago I received two doubles in the mail and I found one at the check stand. I was only able to double three of my manufacturers coupons. You did a great job only speding a little over $13 out of pocket but that is hard to do in Cali. Also I only know of the preferred savings card. I don’t think the reward card you refer to is offered in California. I look forward to hearing from you.
