How to Get Chicken for $1.48 per pound

Attention Washington, Oregon, and Idaho!

We introduced you to the Zaycon Foods 4 months ago.  And told you how they would be bringing us FRESH boneless skinless chicken breasts for $1.48/lb sometime this fall.

We’ve patiently waited.

You’ve patiently waited (well, sometimes).

The day has come.

It is time to order your $1.48/lb FRESH chicken!

Zaycon will be bringing your chicken straight from the farm to your area!

If you registered on the Zaycon website in the past few months, then you should have received an email.  They’ve beefed up and beautified their site.  You will now have your own account on their site where you can place orders, buy gift cards, put money into your account (think: layaway program), and view past orders.  If you have NOT registered with Zaycon, you still can!  In fact, you’ll want to!

  • Make sure you are registered on the site.
  • Orders and payment must be received by October 26th (two weeks from today!)
  • View the areas they are delivering to.  Once you’re registered, you can see exactly what date and time they will be in your area.  You can see this BEFORE you place an order.
  • If you can’t pick up your order, consider finding a friend to pick your order up for you.  You really don’t want to miss out on this delicious and affordable chicken!

Wondering how much chicken you should order?

Look no further friends.  We wondered as well, and decided to show you how we figured it out.  Yes, that’s right.  It’s another cheesy video from your favorite fruGALS!

(if you’re viewing this in an RSS or email, click through to view the video)

Here is how we figured out how much chicken to purchase for the Zaycon Foods Event. Keep in mind that in one box, we got about 54 nicely sized chicken breasts.

Calculate how much chicken you eat (on average) per week:

Average # of Breasts Consumed per meal: Monica 3 Cathy 5
x (times) Number of days you eat chicken in a week: Monica 4 Cathy 3
x Number of times a day you each chicken: Monica 1 Cathy 1
=(equals) Servings per week: Monica 12 Cathy 15

Calculate how much chicken you’ll need to last you 20 weeks:

x 20 weeks (the approximate length of time until we can get cheap chicken again)
= How many breasts you’ll need for the next 20 weeks
DIVIDE that # by 54 breasts in a box
= How many 40 pound boxes you’ll want to order Monica 4.5 Cathy 5.5 {we will share a box}

TOTAL COST:

4.5 boxes – $266.40
5.5 boxes – $325.60

TOTAL SAVINGS:

$183.60!!

  1. YEAH…I got an e-mail yesterday and ordered mine!! It had the date and time but not the location yet. THANKS ladies for this great chicken deal!!

  2. Thanks for helping me figure this all out, I had no idea how much to order! I need more than I thought. You gals are so amazing!!!!!!

  3. I am only bummed that I don’t have more room in my freezer!! Maybe I can get my hubby to just focus on eating the freezer food the next two weeks and not restocking! :)

    • You actually have almost 4 weeks. Zaycon is not coming to Boise until…..Saturday, November 6th!

So feed him chicken nuggets, frozen veggies, cool whip, Old orchard, and rhodes rolls for the next few weeks!

  4. I was going to get 2 boxes… but by your math… I should only need one box…
also: you can “CAN” meat! So, if you know anyone with a PRESSURE CANNER you can do that and you just fill the jars with raw chicken and it cooks as it pressure cooks… then it is like the “Chunk Chicken ” you get from costco for chicken salad!
I have a friend with a pressure cooker and I will be doing some that way. I am nervous for my freezer to “go out” or something

  5. Really makes me wish I had $325! Cheap chicken!

  6. I am wondering if anyone has tried the chicken before or purchased from this company. I have had experiences with tough chicken and even at a good price it would be nice to know the success or failure folks have had with the company. Thanks!

    • Brooke, they brought us a 40 pound box last spring so we could try it out. It was honestly really really good. I thought chicken was chicken. But this was GOOD chicken. I grilled some up and it was nice and juicy. If it was yucky, we wouldn’t have posted about it. It was nice that they let us try it! (seriously, they drove from Spokane to Boise talked to us for 45 minutes, gave us some chicken, and then drove home!).

  7. Amber Croff says:

I am so excited to stock up. I am going to freeze a case and can a case. This will be my first time canning chicken, but I think it will be well worth the time and effort.

  8. I totally can’t wait until Saturday! Did you guys know that Bountiful Baskets is in Boise and Meridian now? I am going to get my first basket on Saturday and see how it goes. It will be a plentiful weekend!

    • Thanks for the great news Sophie! I’d heard that someone was working on opening a Boise location. I’m excited to try it out!
