Are you looking for ways to save on your energy bills? Idaho Power is offering up to $21 in bill credits by signing up for their A/C Cool Credit program!
What is A/C Cool Credit? It’s a simple, effective way to help shift energy demand during the highest-use summer days—when temperatures rise and thousands of air conditioners run at the same time, straining our energy resources. Building additional power plants that are only used during these high-use times is not an ideal solution for this occasional summer problem. A better solution is to temporarily reduce the demand for energy.
How does the program work? Idaho Power will install a “Cool Switch” device on or near your air conditioning unit. Installation is free and takes about 10 minutes. You don’t even have to be home if your A/C is easily accessible. When system demands reach their peak, the switch slightly reduces your air conditioner’s electricity consumption. The Cool Switch is activated only when necessary—a few weekday evenings, usually between 4 and 7 p.m. and not more than 40 hours per month.
How does the bill credit work? For participating in June, July and August, you’ll earn a $7 credit on your July, August and September bills. Switches must be installed by the 15th of June, July or August in order to receive a credit on the following month’s bill. Customers on Budget Pay will see the credit on these statements, but it will not reduce their monthly amount until the annual recalculation.
Will my home get too hot? Your comfort is very important to Idaho Power and the success of this program. Most participants don’t notice any change in their comfort level; nearly 98 percent of participants surveyed experienced little or no difference in their home’s temperature.
How does this program help? A/C Cool Credit works much like drivers commuting at off-peak times to lessen the total number of vehicles using the highway system at the same time. By participating, you help reduce energy consumption during the highest-use summer days, helping to ensure reliable power for everyone. When demand for electricity is at its highest, it is most expensive to produce or purchase. Shifting the demand for power during these times also helps keep costs down.

I dont think this is much of a deal,seven bucks a month?
Seven dollars is seven dollars…..I got on this program last year, and you cannot tell a difference in the comfort level of your home. I would highly recommend it!
I did this and HATE it. Our house has full on western exposure on the back and they shut off the A/C during the hottest part of the day. The house gets really hot, so when the AC comes back on, it runs and runs and runs trying to cool the house off.
If you decided to try this program, be aware of your sun exposure and time of day when your house heats up the most. If a house has nice big trees that give good shade than this could be a good deal, but $8 is not a savings for us. We have saved more money by turning the power off to our entertainment center (tv, dvd, ect) and computers each night.
We signed up a few years ago. We love it! We don’t notice a difference in the temperature. Well worth the phone call to sign up.
